Thanks for the great explanation. Is it basically the same concept to get a table host?
I've also found that table hosts tend to hear about players from other casinos. For example, when my family and I checked in at the Wynn on a free room email offer, I was surprised to find that the comped room was upgraded to a Parlor Suite (which is over 1200 sq feet). The casino host introduced himself to me at the tables - and has garnered a invite to a poker invitational, and a another weekend with comped Garth tickets. Comparatively speaking, when I asked for a host two years ago, I had difficulties even getting a comped resort room from him! Similarly, my current GVR host must have picked me up from some "list" somewhere, since he gave me three nights RFB (after having not played there for almost a year!). |
At the Venetian/Palazzo, they'll pre-assign you a host based on your level of play. But these are just the default hosts and you can always ask for someone else. I've found that these hosts are more for player 'development' rather than real hosts who will take care of you.
Side note - at the Palazzo's credit/host desk, I recently saw a family screaming and yelling at the suits behind the desk because they apparently lost $5k in less than an hour and wanted to be comped for their entire trip. People need to remember that unless you're a super high-roller, its the time you spend playing instead of the amount you've lost. I could play for 3-4 hours/day and come out even but still get more comps than someone who plays for 1 hour and loses $5k. |
What level of play does someone need to get a comped room at a top tier property? I WAS getting offers for free rooms at the Venetian/Palazzo but that dropped off even though my play remained constant. Play was 100-150 a hand average for about 3 hours a day. Could it be that my last trip I played Pai Gow Poker instead of BJ and Baccarat?

more reasons
Once they have you, why send out comps...
Also the casino will want to ramp you up in terms of the amount of play... |
Don't wait for an offer. Just call and ask what they can do for you.

I have a host who introduced himself to me on a visit to MGM a year back. He arranged a nice 2 night Sky Suite stay shortly afterwards and has sent me a few emails telling me about various events/shows coming up but the 15hr trip from Sydney hasn't seen me rush back enthusiastically. I am planning a 3 day stay in early December but out of the blue got an offer from New York New York for a suite/food/$750 comp play/$150 spa credit.
Given MGM and New York New York belong to the same group will my MGM host get "credit" for my play or if I want to remain "loyal' to him should I just email him and see what he can offer at MGM? |

We been to vegas many times and this is the first time we've used a host. I called and emailed several hosts of the different casinos. each of them made their offer, some were horrible and others were ok. Harrah's host were the most friendly to us and gave us a casino rate upfront and limo ride just to bring us to stay at PH for 35 a night with fountain view room.
The strangest host was from Sahara. here is a copy and paste email from the casino host Let me start by saying, it doesnt take much to be a big fish in a small pond! We do comps based on time played and average bet....$30-$35 average bet for 4 to 6 hours will comp room and some food...higher average bet better the room and more food, shows and beverages. Slots...play max bet 4 to 6 hours 25 cents & up . Live Poker and Sports book get no rating. Be careful too if playing $1.00 BJ table...no rating for less than $5.00 average bet, but you get lost in the crowd, so play higher limit tables...max minimum bet table is $25.00...max bet is $500.00 Oh, and craps counts only on line bets...back numbers and prop bets don't count. I'll be sure you meet the pit bosses and key people who will watch out for you for me. We take great care of solid players....one shot wonders never get what they hope for in comps. My view is best bang for your buck is play one casino...playing 2 or 3 is like having 2 or 3 girlfriends...it's more fun, but you never get what you really want from any one of them. I do wonder about hosts. Last time I was at Paris I asked and the desk told me they'd get in touch. No one did. TR diamond so I just assumed it wasn't high enough.
