The "M"hotel

Kinda like a "W"only upside down? :D
Got this in my weekly email from travelzoo.com(love them)
http://hotels.travelzoo.com/las-vega...um=email_top20
Am I right in thinking this is what they have been building on the old Vacation Village(gosh-does anyone remember that place  )site?
I think it might be a little optomistic for them to set mid week winter rates at over $120(including a $25 per night"resort"fee)but let them find that out on their own :D

The M is not at all near Vacation Village. It is basically in Sloan :D

The M is a new construction at the extreme south end of LV BLVD. IIRC it will have about 400 rooms.

here is a story from 2007 on this project:

http://www.lvrj.com/business/11105266.html

"Marnell said M Resort should open ahead of Wynn Resort's $2.2 billion Encore " LOL

DenverBrian Jan 5, 2009 7:44 pm

10 miles south of the airport? No thanks. If I want to stay south I'll stay at South Pointe. Past that is tumbleweeds and Primm.

With a crunch for employees expected, Marnell said M Resort should open ahead of Wynn Resort's $2.2 billion Encore and CityCenter, which has plans to hire 12,000 workers.
Um, yeah. What a difference a year makes.

Anyone care to predict when the first $49 special hits?

bigguyinpasadena Jan 5, 2009 8:09 pm

Well Marnell has been lauged at before-and he got the last laugh when Harrahs bought his hotel-The Rio for a very nice bit of change.Harrahs then,as is their usual custom, made sure that everything that had made the Rio such a wonderful place was quickly reduced to crud.

If Tony Marnell is behind the project I would be tempted to stay there.I loved the rio when he owned it.

Yeah I stayed at VV once after winning a free stay on their wheel. I would have been better off if the wheel had landed on $5 - easily the worst hotel I ever stayed at in LV.

Ah, as soon as I clicked on that I realized what it was - I've driven past it a few times as it is right on the 15 and St. Rose. Every time I drive by, I'm amazed they haven't stopped construction, but it looks like they're actually going through with it!

No doubt it's in the middle of nowhere, but it's not quite 10mi south of the airport. 10 mi south of center strip maybe. Still not a great location though.

bigguyinpasadena Jan 13, 2009 4:55 pm

I had a few minutes to kill so I toook a detour and checked out this hotel.
It is going to be gorgeous, but I just do not get the location.
It looks like they are going for a resort feel-bt why not build it a little further away from I-15 then?
I will stay there when it opens-but I do not see why anyone going to LAS for fun would want to stay so far off the strip.I think they are looking to go up against Red Rock-but that area has plenty of shopping and dining nearby.Southern Highlands is not that developed yet so you are syuck in the hotel or have a long drive to get anywhere.
Still,I remember how much fun the Rio used to be-and how great they were to their players-so I will check it out as I am less than impressed with the changes station casinos have done to their players club.

update:

opens March 1

Dr_wanderlust Feb 21, 2009 4:25 pm

Coincidentally, just went to the mail box and there was a letter from the M with an offer to be "one of our first guests" at a $75 rate with $75 in free slot play.

silverthief2 Feb 23, 2009 3:35 pm

I was in LAX over the weekend and there were ads for the M on the radio station I had on in the rental car. Looks like they're trying to get lots of buzz, hope it goes well for them in this economy.

Anyone know how to get into the VIP "pre-open" on Sunday? Being a new, independent casino, I'm wondering how they come up with their list of VIP's.

Previous Marnell VIPs from RIO. A number of former executives from RIO (pre-Harrah's) are on board at "M." In addition, I'm certain the hosts/casino marketing folks hired by the resort (of which, I'm going to assume some were previous RIO hosts) will be contacting everyone on their personal VIP (big player) lists.

Considering that the Marnell family has roots in Las Vegas [society], I would assume that it won't be difficult to come up with a long list of gaming and non-gaming VIPs.

QuietLion Feb 25, 2009 7:47 pm

Once the games are turned on the place is required by law to be open to the public, so I don't know what this VIP pre-opening is about.
