Driving in Vegas?

I'll be in Vegas for 8 days in October. I've always stayed right on the strip, or very close by. This time the meeting is at the courtyard Marriott in Henderson. I'm contemplating whether I want to stay at the Courtyard or if I want to stay somewhere on the strip and drive to the courtyard for meetings each day. There are a lot of strip hotels with weekday rates less than $100/night (compared to courtyard at $139/night).

So for those of you familiar with the area, what would you recommend? According to google maps, it's 11 miles from TI to the courtyard and will take 18 minutes. Is that a realistic time frame? I'm guessing it will actually take longer...

(Mods, if this is in the wrong place, please move it. Thanks)

I've done both, staying at Sunset Station out in Henderson a few times (you may want to try there...nice place, good rates)

What do you want from your LV trip?
Do you want the "LV Experience?"
Or are you going on business and plan to leave it that way?
Do you gamble?
Do you want to eat at gourmet restaurants?
Do you plan to entertaining clients?

I wouldn't count on the 18 minutes of drive time but - depending upon time of day - could envision making it in 18 minutes once on the road (out of the parking complex).

I spent some time working in Las Vegas. I used to stay on the strip and drive up north. That is in the opposite direction you would be heading in, but my experience was that traffic wasn't that bad. It's slow during rush hour, but not too bad. My trip was about 15 minutes with no traffic, and about 20 - 25 with traffic.

just as long as you keep off the strip during rush hour you should have no problem getting to where you need to be quickly.

even most side streets flow nicely but once you get stuck on the strip there's no telling how long it'll take.

I would stay on the Strip and drive as I'm sure there is much more to do and see for a week downtown Vegas as compared to Henderson.

Assuming you will be renting a car anyway, it will be fine to drive from the strip. Strip gets crowded during the weekend only but you wouldn't drive the strip but rather a parallel street like Koval.

My primary reason for being there is business, I'm there for a product training so no clients or anything like that. I do like to eat good and I do gamble, so that's my reasoning for wanting to stay on the strip... but I just don't want to have an hour drive each morning.

Two thoughts:

1. Don't forget to add in th amount of time needed to walk to you car if you're staying at one of the strip resorts. That could potentially double (or more) your 18-min drive time depending on what hotel you choose.

2. Consider staying on the east side of the strip (e.g. Paris, PH, Venetian) to avoid potential strip-crossing traffic problems.

The other option is to split the distance and stay at a Boulder Highway hotel like the new Cannery East or the older Sam's Town.
