Mayweather vs de la Hoya on May 5th 2007
Anyone planning on attending the Mayweather vs de la Hoya bout at MGM Grand on May 5th ?
"The WBC light middleweight title fight between six-division world champion Oscar de la Hoya and unbeaten four-division champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is expected to exceed expectations both aesthetically and financially."
http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news?slu...v=st&type=lgns
I would really like to go. I enjoyed the Mayweather vs Judah fight last year; and this is going to be some event. Though, IMHO, Mayweather is going to destroy de la Hoya.

And we're arriving on the ninth. We always get there late Sunday night; and the bouts are always held on Saturday! I suppose I can always make a bet on our Nov. 11th trip. I won a little betting on Mayweather last May. Had to lay 2 to win 1. Most people I spoke with lost on de la Hoya, preferring the "better" odds going that way. Gonna have to see what happens with this one.
baccarat-king: if you attend the fight, why not stay over a couple of days and hang out with us? How busy can you be in the beginning of December, anyway?

No venue " officially " announced yet but MGM Grand appears to be the hot favourite so on the strength of that booked LHR-LAS and five nights at the Paris for about £750.
More than 10,000 Brits expected to travel so Vegas should brace itself for an outbreak of excessive drinking and competitive street vomiting.
Er ... anyone know where I can get a ticket ?

Ticketmaster (when they go on sale) Though, I got my tickets for Mayweather vs de la Hoya Vegas style.
As with any big fight, there will be quite a bit of "hold-back" of tickets by the casinos. But, access to tickets (via brokers etc...) is easy, all it takes is $$$$

There's a bit of confusion over here because the Spice Girls are due to play Vegas on December 8th - although various news agencies have confidently predicted the fight will be at the MGM.
Ticketmaster should be interesting with 10,000 British fingers poised to hit their keyboards simultaneously !

I agree that it will be hard to grab some (that's why I rely on my connections ) --- BUT, are you saying ticketmaster is making this up ON the website?
STILL 2 HOURS to go until the sale........

Oh yes,it's going to get exceedingly messy.
As soon as the box office opened on US Ticketmaster any UK fans logging on were being told that all tickets have been sold out at EVERY price level.
And there even no tickets available for CCTV venues for the fight.
All this within seconds of the box office opening.
Many thousands have already booked flights and hotels in advance and there's a great deal of anger already on internet sites here that there's some skulduggery going on.
Surely it's not possible for an event to be sold out instantly !

Part of the "game" is that they do NOT release all of the tickets online at one time, IIRC.
Personally, WHY book air and hotel before one has their tickets??? (IF THAT is your ONLY or MAIN reason for the trip)
There are still TONS & TONS of rooms to be had in Vegas (COMP or otherwise); and per the De La Hoya Fight (which, IMO, was a much bigger event being on Cinco de Mayo and the Mexican fans... and the incredible love for OSCAR!) --- up until 2+ weeks before you could still get rooms at a decent clip.
Remember, the average Vegas hotel has 3,000 ++ rooms
You don't have to fly into Vegas if the flights are difficult to get (which they aren't) -- You can always do LAX and drive.
So, why risk a trip? I do book a bit in advance, and I never know until 2-5 days before if I'm getting my seats (for De La Hoya I was told 4 days in advance for 1 ticket COMP --- then... was told 30 hours in advance I could have 2 ticks)
Was I upset... NO --- that was my EXPECTATION... If I didn't go to the fight, I would have been fine... A weekend in Vegas is always a GOOD THING!
edit to add : or, just pay $1,000 to $3,000 per seat (from a broker), chalk it up to entertainment --- and feel satisfied that you enjoyed a once in a lifetime event. Personally, I rather add the coin to my trip bankroll --- but, you only live once......

I agree with you entirely Baccarat_King - I shall enjoy my Vegas weekend whether I see the fight live or on CCTV.
The reality is,however, that Ricky Hatton has a very loyal following ( 10,000 came over for his last Vegas fight ) many of whom are working class and for many the only way they could afford the trip is to book the flights early when they were cheaper and snap up as many cheap hotel room as they can and hope to pick-up nosebleed €150 tickets.
And I think there's been genuine surprise that only 3,900 tickets out of a possible 29,000 were allocated to UK fans.
