Best desert in Vegas ( and I have dined most of the major places in Vegas) is the Banana Cream pie at Emerills Fish House.
You should not have to get into the main restaurant dining rooms to order it.
They have an outside bar just to the right when you enter and I believe they will serve most of the appetizers and desserts from the main menu there.

The bar is usually very busy during prime dining hours as people wait and sometime hope to get into the dining room, but by say 930/1000 pm you should get seats there easily.

Its the only reason I go into MGM Grand, I dislike the casino personnel there with a passion.

P.S. I just noticed the late hour of your dessert, at that time I think your best choice will be limited to either the Voodoo Lounge at the Rio ( where I think you should take your grandmother anyway, it has the best, bar none night view of the strip) or the Grand Luxe Cafe in the Venetian which is owned by the Cheesecake factory. Personally I am not CCF fan but the Grand Luxe is a couple notches better.

Grand Lux Café, like its sister restaurant, The Cheesecake Factory, fulfills any hunger. Choose from breakfast items, appetizers, pizza, seafood, steaks, burgers, chicken, specialty items, pasta, salads, sandwiches and over 20 fabulous desserts! The wine list is equally eclectic, including selections from all regions. Dine in or place a to-go order at our retail bakery featuring coffee drinks, pastries, cheesecakes and a variety of Grand Lux-themed merchandise. Although Grand Lux Café can accommodate up to 550 people, its design is both intricate and intimate. The architecture and décor of Grand Lux Café was inspired by the look and feel of classic Venetian cafés with up to 100 seats available for private dining.

The Grand Lux has what you want, how you want it and when you want it.

Chef: Owned and Operated by the Cheesecake Factory.
Menu: An eclectic selection of over 150 menu items.
Hours: Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Phone: (702) 414-3888

For a fantastic dining experience in a standalone restaurant, I would have to say Andre's, downtown http://www.andrelv.com

It was singularly the best dining experience I have ever had. They now have two spin off restaurants, Alize at The Palms, and Andre's at Monte Carlo.

It's pricey, but the food was excellent, the Sommelier was wonderful, and they have a very very extensive wine cellar. I took my partner there for his birthday this year, and the staff found out it was his birthday purely by chance and his dessert (a to die grand marnier souffle), was decorated with chocolate writing and a birthday candle!

The Dessert wine we had was so good I almost cried!

Seriously good food, it's said to be the best French restaurant in Vegas.

Dinner with tip was $366 for two.

Please, at least check out the web site

I have recently read that there is a new nightclub at the top of the Rio. The Voodoo Lounge has likely been replaced. Otherwise it would be a great choice! For more Vegas details go to www.lasvegasadvisor.com They are even offering a 10.00 membership that will get you coupons good through the end of the year!

At $366 I woulda cried too

But seriously I do believe the restaurants in Vegas will have to start looking at the prices they charge its really getiing out of hand, that why Roseamarys
and the now closed I believe, Wild Sage are so attractive to me. Better food at 30% to 50% less. Example have lunch for two at Il Fornio which is just ok or Spago which is good and you can easily come away with a $120 check.
Main reason same bottle of wine is 3 to 4 times you pay at the liquor store.

All that said I guess I will just have to bite the bullet, life is too short for me to be cutting back on the pleasure of dining.

Wink

Thanks again for the suggestions!

We might try that Grande Luxe cafe since it's right at our hotel...the Rio is kinda far for us at that time of night!

Thanks!

Grand Luxe is a great option. Their desserts are the bomb!!! Their food is also very good. I did not know that it was owned by the Cheesecake factory...

Since you will already be in the Bellagio, I would suggest Cafe Bellagio, located by the conservatory. The cheescake souffle was very good, as was the trio of creme brulee. You would certainly find better offerings if it were earlier in the evening and the high end dining establishments were still open, but of the 24 hour cafes, I would rate it the highest.

Bellagio Executive Pastry Chef Jean-Philippe Maury, oversees production of desserts at all of Bellagios restaurants. If you have ever seen the World Team Pastry Competitions they show on FoodTV, he recently won the gold medal.

For off-strip dining has anyone else tried Viaggio in Henderson? They've got great food and a REALLY nice wine list! (They also have a location in Reno)
I searched for a Viaggio website and found http://www.viaggio.net/ Very unique site with pages of a book. Take a look.

Italian is my favorite and the menu sounds fabulous. It is a ways out, but coincidentally I have an appointment right in that area next week. I'll be sure to try it out.

Thanks for the tip.

I haven't been to this great steak restaurant for a few years but it was excellent. Great Steaks, reasonably priced, casual atmosphere. Used to be quite a ways out of town to the north. Now the city has grown around it! It was definitely worth the drive.

Wild Sage's owners are re-opening under a new name - don't have time to search now, but look on Chowhund.com - Southwest site for info... Good news!!

My favorite restaurant in Las Vegas is Lotus of Siam; 2nd Rosemary's

C´mon people...do we really think that steakhouses are the best restaurants in any major city?

Renoir
Le Cirque
Picasso

In that order are the best real dining rooms. Yes, they feature high prices but we are talking about the best, not the biggest piece of meat. Renoir is my favorite since it is not full of the "see and be seen" crowd...and no, you will not get a big piece of incinerated meat there, you will get several small plates.

Some people seem to think so, I don't. Steakhouses seem to be a "safe" route to go when dining, most diners (IMO) are not willing to experiment with their meals/cuisine, sadly that includes those I used to work with in the food industry!
