The Consolidated "Transportation options & costs to/from LAS from/to ______" thread

Approximately how much might a taxi cost between the airport and the Plaza Hotel Casino in downtown?

Also, how bad is that hotel? I am there for only one night, between flights.

If your time schedule permits, a much more economical transportation alternative would be a shuttle to your downtown hotel. Most are in the $5 - $7 range:

The NV Taxicab Authority sent me a list a while back that had estimated fares between the airport and a number of locations. It appears that a one-way from the airport to downtown will be about $15-16, plus $1.20 airport tax, plus tip. Remember, that's an estimate.

The Plaza is prob ok for one night, although there are many regular hotels/motels right by the airport, as well as a number of the major resorts (MGM. Tropicana, etc) very close by.

The only issue I have with the shuttles is I have seen a lot of complaints about people who bought round trip shuttle tickets arranging return trips back to the airport. If you do select a shuttle, I would only buy a one-way ticket. Perhaps take a cab back.

Thanks for the great replies. Looks like the best idea would be the shuttle there and taxi back, since my flight out is at 7.15 AM.

Unfortunatelly, all airport hotels are book solid on Jan 8. In fact, almost the entire city is booked solid, due to two giant conferences being in town.

if you waite in front of the Plaza a shuttle should come around every 30 minutes at most.
Please not that Vegas airport security is hit and miss. Sometimes it can take quite a while to clear.
Main Street station (a two minute walk for the Plaza) has a nice buffet.

I just did a quick check. Orbitz was showing rooms available at a couple of Motel 6's about a mile from the airport for around $65/night plus tax, if that is an option.

It may be a little difficult getting a cab from them in the morning. If you decide to stay there, I would ask the front desk person for help when you get there.

Its also showing rooms at the Westgate Flamingo Bay (I never heard of it), 5625 W. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas listed as about 4 miles from the airport for $99/night plus tax. Here more info on that hotel:
http://www.orbitz.com/App/ViewHotelD...e=interstitial

Finally, if you have time, I would call a place like the Trop or MGM direct. Even if the web site says sold out, someone at the hotel will have access to the latest room inventory info. You might catch a cancelation.

One final note, I know at least one Vegas cabbie that has his own web site:

http://hometown.aol.com/dearcabbie/

You can call him direct to arrange rides. If he is not on duty, he will try to help arrange a ride with one of his cabbie friends that is.

I just made that cab ride a couple weeks ago to the Main Street Station which is adjacent to the Plaza. Cost was just under twenty bucks.

The Plaza is, to be kind, a dump.

Taxi cost will be at least $20 on the meter because of distance and traffic. Since there are no shuttles before 6AM,the taxi is the only option on the return to LAS.
Frankly, all of downtown is old and somewhat creepy after dark. The "strip" is much better and safer. Find something near the airport.

You have to weigh if you value time or money.

Van shuttles will be cheaper, but will take a much longer time to get you from the airport to the hotel (depending on how many stops it makes).

Taxis will be more expensive, but will take you directly to the hotel.

If you are by yourself, the shuttles are cheaper by a lot. If you have two, then they are cheaper by a little bit. My new rule, shuttle to the strip on the inbound, cab from the hotel to the airport on the return.
