Hotel rate question
 

I have a friend who is going to Vegas and staying for 17 nights.He wants to stay at either Mandalay Bay or Venetian.Can he get a negotiated rate for that length of stay, or is he just better off using Travelaxe? I've never stayed longer than 5 nights so I couldn't answer the question.

Have him phone the hotel. If he's going to be gambling then tell your friend to ask for a slot host there. Definetly phone and ask though as that is such a long stay.

edit : I've never used priceline but apparently the Venetian can be had for $99 a night. Not sure if your friend would be able to get 17 nights though.

I forgot to mention, he's not a gambler.Just some $ 10 table action for a couple of hours and small slot play so getting a rate based on gambling would be out of the question.

Out of my curiosity - if he's not a gambler, what is he doing for 17 days in Vegas ??

Btw. Priceline is not an option, as you won't get rooms on the weekends.

I believe the average stay in Vegas is less then 5 nights. I don't think the major strip hotels negotiate for rates unless huge volumes are involved. He might find special rates at places like Extended Stay America or Marriott Residence Inn.

That said, he has nothing to lose by calling each hotel and asking to speak with a hotel operations manager.

Sounds like a mattress run opportunity for me. It's a bit of work, but he could get elite status with a chain by strategically changing hotels each night.

For example: Hilton Gold now takes 16 stays. Rotate Hilton properties for the 17 nights and he's set, plus a truckload of points.

Yes, tell us why he is going for 17 nights?

A guess says he is there for some work, which means he might want to stay someplace besides the strip to avoid the parking and traffic hassles.

PS - for many of us, $10 table action is real gambling.

Thanks for the input.He decided to go with Mandalay Bay.He called them and they lowered his rate for some of the days to the lower promotional rates they were offering on the hotel website.He's been to Vegas once, his wife has never been to Vegas. I was told it's 10 days for leisure, 7 days for work.

Wow - 10 days for leisure in Las Vegas? 3 nights is the most I can handle. There's so much going on, that I personally always find myself doing something, and 3 days of it will wear me out.

Having said that, Mandalay Bay is certainly a nice place to do it. Among other reasons, it's one of the few places that I think has really good room service.
