Consolidated "Parking in Las Vegas and at/near LAS" thread

Do all of the major hotels have parking garages? Is it free? I'm staying at Treasure Island and I will have a car in Vegas. Will I have a problem parking?

Hi,

All the major hotels will have a variety of parking;

(1) Self Parking -free -this can involve a long walk from your room to the car park ( usually way at the back of the hotel)

(2) Valet Parking- on arrival at the hotel go up to the valet parking ( front of the hotel) and wait by your car until the valet comes- he will give you a slip -do not lose this )
Then when leaving the hotel go to the valet pick up point/desk , hand the slip over and a few minutes later your car will come with the a/c turned up if necessary.
( We gave the valets $2 when we picked the car up)
Occasionally the Valet sign said full at our hotel( M Bay) but there was no problem as we were guests.
There may be longer queues at weekend's or after a major show finishes.

The major problem is likely to be the traffic on the strip!!

Regards

TBS

No problem at all parking. We do it all the time. In my experience, best parking (closest) for the south end:
NYNY-walk to MGM and others or Mandalay Bay
and walk. I prefer NYNY.
Mid strip- Bellagio, and walk across to Paris, Alladin, Caesars. Caesars is very close parking to casino, but long walk to other casinos.

Venetian-enter from Koval (behind) and miss all the traffic.

Since you're driving around, try to see Sam's Town, the Station Casinos, and the Fiestas, Orleans and Palms, and many others off strip.

Have a nice day flying United!

Interesting. Just today I was wondering why most strip hotels dont charge for parking but most downtown hotels do charge.

Anyhow most valet parking is free also and most people tip a dolla or two only when they retrieve their car.

I have been going to vegas for 25 years and never paid for parking at any hotel, especially downtown. I can vouch for the fact that the Golden Nugget does not charge for parking.

I dunno. Type ""golden nugget" vegas parking" into google and you get many answers. Most say free parking to guests and validated to non-guests. I stay mostly on the strip, thus I have never stayed downtown, just visited to see or play, so I paid a small fee or easily gotta my ticket stamped at the casino.

Most of the downtown casino lots are pay parking but anyone can get their ticket validated. I know there is a big parking lot beside the Plaza. You go in and they have validators if that's what they are called. Just go up, stick in your parking ticket and your done. Don't even have to talk to anyone.

The Strip parking lots are usually a bit of a walk away from the casino but its free parking. I don't know of anyone that's had to pay beside the tip to a valet .

Good luck on your trip.

The reason they charge for parking downtown is the same reason they charge for parking in any major downtown in the country. They are trying to keep people who are going to the courthouse, City Hall, etc from parking their cars there all day, every day, thus taking away guests and visitors parking. Valet is free and does not have a time limit. The valet guys and girls kinda get suspicious when you come in every day, 5 times a week at exactly 8am though

Question Is parking free in Vegas?

We've never been to Vegas. We will be there June 2-9, '04. I thought I heard on the radio once, that they have lots of free parking in Vegas, because they want to get people into the Casinos to gamble. Is that true?

This is going to be a very tight vacation budget, since it really wasn't a planned vacation. We had already planned an Atlanta vacation for this summer, but then this fantastic airfare from Travelocity showed up on my e-mail for $112 round-trip to LAS. I just couldn't resist!

We already have airfare, and got a great Priceline deal on a Hertz Rental car for $12 a day for a Compact. We hope to maybe score a good Priceline rate on the strip for 3 nights and maybe relax out at the J.W. Marriott, also through Priceline hopefully.

If anyone has any good websites to go see, I'd sure appreciate it. We'd like to see shows, see the lights and attractions, rides, and we have our 15 yr. old daughter with us. My husband wondered if there's such a thing as a day camp for activities for teens, so she wouldn't be bored with us old fogies!

Any other good Vegas pointers, let me know!
Thanks guys!

Yes, true. Most hotel-casinos offer a choice of no-charge valet parking at their front entrances, or no-charge self-parking in garages attached to the side or rear of their buildings. As soon as you enter the hotel property, signs will direct you to either the valet or the self parking.

If you use valet, you're "obligated" to give the valet attendents a gratuity, but the self-parking garages are completely self-sevice. Some of them are quite large and involve a little walking, so drop off your passengers near the entrance if any of them have difficulty walking, etc.

Oops, forgot the websites:

THe first one to check is the official site from the LV Convention and Visitor's Authority:

http://www.vegasfreedom.com

There are many "unofficial" sites. One technique is to do a Google search on phrases like "Las Vegas deals" or "Las Vegas attractions".

The Las Vegas Revie-Journal has some good information for visitors, including their "best of Las Vegas 2004) rankings and also this page in things for teenagers to do:

Hi: your daughter will not be bored. I took my 13 year old grandaughter two years ago and she had a ball. Every hotel has something worth seeing:
Bellagio has dancing waters and magnificent gardens
Mirage has a volcano
Rio Hotel has Masquerade Village and for $9.pp you can all go out on the floats and be part of the show.
Flamingo:Has penguins and pretty gardens as well
New York, New York: Outside has the skyline of NY and inside, has Greenwich Village area with restaurants and all
I won't list them all but I assure you there is tons for her to enjoy with you.
Downtown the Freemont Street Experience is free although it only lasts a few minutes, but usually the Plaza Hotel has a great lounge show that is free and viewable from just outside the lounge. There is also a place to get half price tickets for shows at the end of the strip. You can have lunch at the Rainforest Cafe at the MGM which is really cute too. If you do a search in the Las Vegas Forum you will get more info than you ever wanted. You can also check out www.vegas.com for more info. Also, if you want something different for one day, check out Key Tours in the Flamingo and ask for a free trip to Laughlin. They will take you for a two hour ride to Laughlin, Nevada on the Colorado River. It is a little Las Vegas and really nice. They usually give you five hours to stay there with a free lunch and then they bring you back. You might want to contact them before you even go. They sent me the coupon for the free trip in advance. Have fun.
