Visiting with kids - Conrad or Mandalay Bay

Hi

Will be there in Aug for a week before going to Disney California. 2 adults and 4 kids (8 to 14). Will be having a car. We've stayed at Wynn and Palazzo previously without the kids.

I can't seem to decide between the Conrad 1 bedroom suite + connecting queen or the panoramic suite in Mandalay. They are coming up as the same price.

I've got Hilton Gold but I don't think they account for much. Have looked at AMEX FHR but no obvious deals. My only other concern is that Hilton will not guarantee the connecting room while suiteness.com seems to suggest so? They are both coming on the same rate.

Have not really seen both resort. Any opinions ?

Check out a 1 or 2 bedroom suite at the Elara, a Hilton Timeshare. Non smoking and non gaming property with rooms originally built to be a luxury condominium project. Attached to the Planet Hollywood hotel/casino with loads of retail/restaurants in an indoor mall. Consider allowing your 14 year old to do a bit of unsupervised window shopping. Downsides: it may be more expensive than the Conrad or Mandalay (both of which are far from the center of the strip) and the pool is nothing special.

In addition to the Elara, check out Hilton Grand Vacations Club Las Vegas Strip and HVC Paradise. I know that the strip has 3 br suites available. Again, No gaming and pool area just ok.

These are good suggestions. The reasons I would favor the Elara over these are:

---the Strip and Paradise are purpose-built Hilton Vacation Club timeshare buildings (seen one, you have seen them all), whereas the Elara was obviously built to a higher, more elegant standard

---in August, you must minimize your outdoor time since the heat will make you feel that you are in a broiler oven. Elara allows an indoor walk to the casino and shopping mall. It's even more scary when the power goes out, as happened to us one time (but it was fun to see the Windows 98 billboard signs rebooting on the strip when the power was restored). Elara allows an indoor walk to the casino and shopping mall.

The Elara, I believe, also has 3 and perhaps even 4 bedroom units, but at an outrageous price.

I think there's more for the kids at Mandalay Bay . There is a pretty nice aquarium, and the MJ One show I feel would occupy a kid's attention.

Conrad is one of our favorite hotels, but more upscale / adult oriented. The food court / shopping mall inside would probably be the funnest part for kids.
