Rental Car Rates Coming Down

For the past couple of years I've been renting from Fox. You have to take a second shuttle, but their rates have been the best available and since I always go for at least 5 days, the extra 20 minutes in each direction isn't too onerous.

On an upcoming trip (Dec 11-25) I got a prepaid rate of $330 all-in for two weeks. I paid an extra $33 for cancellability, since I was going to make a cancellable booking for about $90 more, so it was a better deal.

Prior to Fox I usually rented from Nu-Car, which was also theoretically a "2-shuttle" location but it's right across the street from the rental car facility. Their rates appear to be competitive with Fox now.

I've seen negative reviews of Fox but I've never had a problem with them. The only downside is that if I make a reservation for, say, 8PM, and I get an earlier flight and arrive at 6PM, they charge me for the extra two hours, while most rental car providers simply say that I have to bring it back by 6PM on the day of departure. However, I always rent for a week even if I'm only going to be there 5-6 days, and I don't know how they calculate the price for an early return but I've always felt it was very favorable to me.

If the only reason I need a rental car in Las Vegas is to load up at Trader Joe's before flying out, are there options *other* than renting a car for a full day? e.g. Can I rent from a car share for half a day? If I must rent a car I'm looking for a one-way from the strip to LAS, but it looks like many rental locations don't allow one-ways?

When is this for? Budget has some great one-day rates this week for a RAV4 picked up and returned to the airport. Can you find a cheap way to get to the airport from your hotel?

Im looking at the 2nd week of Jan, but the trip is very short (but not so short I would just keep a car for the entire trip) so trying to spend as little time in transit as possible.

Looks like rentals on Tuesday and Wednesday are the cheapest at Budget LAS that week. Finding a one-way, one-day rental from the Strip to the airport might prove challenging and/or expensive. If you'll be anywhere near Tropicana Avenue and the Strip, the hourly Centennial Express bus can get you to the airport in 20 minutes for $2.00.

From the airport, it's just a ten-minute drive to the closest Trader Joe's (in Henderson).

Good luck!

I snagged a rental for the day for like 50 bucks in January from Enterprise on Flamingo. I always see Fox, significantly cheaper than everyone else....

Nice to see the prices aren't as outrageous anymore.

And there is a free shuttle from the airport to the Rent-A-Car Center.

Got something for $50 once, sometimes a real bargain.
