Luxor or Harrah's (Vegas on a budget)
I'm a European planning a low-budget solo trip to the US this November. (Not hostel, airbnb, Greyhound, and Spirit low budget but not splurging on premium cabin flights or upscale hotels.)
Through a player's club offer, I currently am booked for the Luxor. It's $55 per night all in for a Pyramid Deluxe King. Rationale: cheapest MGM property I could find with recently-renovated rooms (renovation finished this year).
Pro Luxor: Earns Hyatt nights. Con: Near southern end of strip.
I no have an offer through Caesar's for Harrah's. It's $38 per night all-in. Mountain King room that was also newly renovated in 2020/21.
Pro Harrah's: Better location. Con: Luxor looks slightly nicer.
Would you switch?
I haven't stayed at either resort. Will be in Vegas for playing Poker and Blackjack, center strip and, possibly, on Fremont.

I’ve recently gotten 2-4 free night offers from MGM properties. On these offers they do add in resort fees. Sun-Thur nights were more reasonable. 5 nights using a 3 “free” nights deal was a tad under $400 for this month at the Mirage.
I haven’t stayed at a Harrah’s for at least 15 years in Vegas, but they usually didn’t impress.

Thanks. Mirage is expensive on my dates, unfortunately.
For clarification, the prices mentioned above are mid week all-in prices. No resort fees on top. The figure for Luxor is based on an offer in which some of the nights are comped and reflects resort fees. And I don't have to pay resort fees on Caesar's Rewards properties. (If you're wondering: The ambition for a low-budget vacation is a one-time thing. I usually don't skimp quite as much which explains why I've got status with Caesar's and Mlife.)

Hi,
Stayed at the Luxor a few years ago ( Tower room though) . Room was very good ( separate shower) and hotel was nice ( the buffet was reasonable and had an archeological dig theme. Covered walkway to Excalibur then cross the street to MGM for the monorail. Can also walk via Mandaly Bay shoppes to Mandalay Bay/Delano ( often used the MB buffet which was better quality than Luxor and was reasonably prices. The egyptian theme has been lowered since it was originally built ( I miss the animatronic camels by the old Ginza Galleria)
I have heard that a potential issue with the pyramid rooms is the potential wait for the inclinators but no personal experience)
Walked through Harrah's a few times ( location is good) and close to the harrahs/link monorali station but has not particularly impresses me ( rooms are probably adequate though)
Regards

I've never stayed at Luxor, but I've stayed at Harrah's dozens of times, so take this opinion for what it is worth...
I prefer Harrah's for what is immediately surrounding it. This is particularly important if you are on a budget because you don't have to pay to go anywhere, and there are loads of low-budget options right next to the hotel. In-n-Out burger, McDonald's, White Castle, etc all within easy walking distance so you never feel trapped in your hotel or limited to whatever overpriced options are available from the hotel.
The renovated rooms at Harrah's are good enough. You specifically mentioned you are going to be hanging out around center strip, so I'd go with Harrah's.

As a heads up, if some of your nights are comped at Luxor, you won't get Hyatt night credits. Resort fees don't count as a paid night if that is all you are paying. Room rate must be above $0. You might be able to get night credits for the nights you actually pay but in my experience it is unlikely.

I'd probably stay at Harrah's because of location.
I've not been to Vegas recently, but I think both Excalibur and Luxor have permanently shut their poker rooms. Mandalay Bay might be your closest one, but many times I've been there (pre covid), there wasn't that much action.
Also, as RevJim mentions above, if you're doing it on a budget there are much better food options near Harrahs (and Ellis Island is not too far from there, if they are still doing their $7.99 steak specials).
Not sure if I can post links, but there might be some more up to date/local advice on twoplustwo forums:

Another vote for Harrahs, especially since you want to play some poker. Much easier access to Bellagio, Venetian, and Aria poker rooms from Harrahs.
Plenty of cheap food around Harrahs - even an In-N-Out at Harrahs/Linq these days.

Yep, Harrah's by far. Tons of stuff right next to you, Luxor is buried at the south end of the strip with nothing close by. Harrah's is also much closer to Freemont (which is a great idea to try to save a few bucks and have more fun). I've spent a fair amount of time in Vegas and now always stay at the north end. I find Caesars properties to have a more generous Player's Club and just like like the location of their properties more.

Take Harrah's for a number of reasons.
- You're not really going to notice a difference between Luxor and Harrah's rooms so I would go with the cheaper option. Both hotels are on the mediocre end of the spectrum. My luck is really bad at Luxor, though. I'm almost always as far from an elevator as is humanly possible and the layout of the pyramid can make it a bit of a hike to get room to elevator.
- Poker. At Luxor your options without driving somewhere are Mandalay Bay (tiny poker room with dumb hours) or MGM Grand, which is bigger and better but still a bit of a hike. Harrah's is going to give you Caesars and Bellagio (great poker rooms open basically 24/7), Mirage, and maybe one or two more within a comfortable walk.
- Not a blackjack player at all but from what I understand, TI, which is basically across the street from Harrah's, has the lowest limit 3:2 blackjack where as down by Luxor it's basically all 6:5 until you get up to $100+ limits.
- Depending on when you're going in November, Harrah's puts you fairly comfortably close to Rio for WSOP events if that's your thing.

Any chance you have Bally's offers ? If so stay there...........should be in the same price range as harrahs
Unless you are diamond or above Harrrah's will have a resort fee, same on your luxor deal
We will be in Vegas Black Friday to the following WED
TI is not across the street from harrah's, it's about a 1/2 mile walk near Wynn
When you book via MLIFE you get Hyatt POINTS based on what you spend, you don't get nights

Also for poker: Make sure you have the Bravo Poker Live app on your phone. It's free. Shows you all the Vegas (and nationwide) poker rooms, which tables are going, what the wait list is. That way you can plan your excursions to poker rooms without too much disappointment that the wait list is 40 deep, or your game isn't even being spread in that room.
