Hotels in April
I am spending 6 nights in Vegas mostly as a base to tour surrounding areas and for some good food. Notice that hotel prices are all over the place. For example MGM Grand can be as low as $36 plus resort fees while other MLife hotels are over $200 plus resort fees. Can someone recommend two or three hotels with good price quality ratios? While I would like to stay at mlife hotels for Hyatt bonuses, I am open to any suggestions. Would like to know if some needs to be avoided.

I find MGM Grand just too big, the walk from the room I had (near the strip) to the pool complex felt like it wasn’t far off a mile! If it’s just a base to sleep and eat, I quite like New York New York, not stayed there but it’s a manageable size and plenty of eateries and a walk to nearby hotels with decent offerings

NYNY is cheap but it's getting pretty run down. Park MGM tends to be reasonably priced (and has very easy access to all of the NYNY eateries). While it's not as high-end as some, it is clean and new (complete renovation of the old Monte Carlo). However, it is completely non-smoking now (which may be a plus or minus for you). I'd also check the prices for Vdara since the rooms are quite large and stylish and the prices can be reasonable.
Also, if you haven't already joined Mlife, do that (and status match your Hyatt account) before booking since it can save you quite a bit. And also look at the price breakdown and not just the average nightly rate. A nice hotel like Aria can be very cheap during the week and then skyrocket on Saturday and Sunday, so if you're open to the idea, you can always move to a cheaper hotel (like Park MGM) for those 2 days.

Hi,
I like the Luxor ( tower rooms) and the Mandalay Bay ( esp the lazy river and wave beach -they should be open in april) but both are at the south end of the strip so travelling to mid strip might be time consuming)
I would probably avoid the Excalibur.
The City Centre hotels ( Vdara/Aria)are good locations just south of Bellagio.. The Mirage can be reasonable also
Fri/Sat nights can be very expensive compared to mid week so it may be worth whille having a Fri/Sat stay off strip ( Hyatt place maybe) then go to the strip hotels for 5 nights or so
Have not stayed at the MGM grand ( just walked through it to the monorail) and like mikeyfly . feel it is too big and can be confusing at first
Regards

Are you going to be renting a car, and if so are you planning on valet or self-parking? Some of the properties have a real trek from the rooms to the parking garages, and that could get old if you're planning on doing it at least once every day.

I stay at Orleans, which is about 1 1/2 miles off the strip, right up Tropicana. I usually pay about $75-80 a night including tax and resort fee, during the week. (Significantly higher on weekends.) I might get a small discount for my players card, but I doubt it's a lot. The rooms are fairly large and comfortable, I'd call it a half-notch below Planet Hollywood (the only Strip hotel I stay at anymore.) There is plenty of parking (free) and it's convenient to I-15. Nice assortment of restaurants with only a slight "in the hotel" up-pricing. Also, there is a Budget car rental place right across the street. Sometimes their prices are better than the main car rental facility, and depending on your plans you can save time and money. What I mean is, if I arrive at 9PM after a long trip I'd much rather hop in an Uber and go to the hotel than take the bus to the car rental facility and wait in line there, and then if I pick up the rental car the next day I can save a day's charge. The rates at Budget are much better if you pick up on a Monday or sometimes Sunday, but note that they close early, like 5PM or 5:30PM.

I was in Vegas last week and parked for free at the MGM properties. I parked at Caesars in the big parking structure near the back of the Forum Shops and the sign said the first hour was free but had rates for 1 hour on up, etc. I just parked for 30 minutes or so because I didn’t want to incur the charge if indeed it was applicable. I’m not sure what the Caesars properties are doing. I did call the Flamingo because I was thinking about playing some low limit hold ‘em and was told by the operator that parking was not free there. Am I mistaken or given bad information by the operator?

If you don't mind changing rooms every night and have access to Amex FHR, Chase LHRC or Virtuoso ( I use classictravel.com) , you might look at a reserving with those programs since many hotels offer a $100/stay food credit and free breakfast.
I rotate between Delano, Park, Cosmo, Aria, and Bellagio depending on rates.
MGM is big but I stay there for good monorail access to convention center. Avoid the West Wing rooms, even though they are cheaper, since the walk from them to monorail or parking is MUCH longer.

Park MGM is relatively cheap, easy to get to/from parking garage, and located close to the center of the strip, so you can walk to most places. It was completely renovated recently and the rooms are in good condition, though on the smaller side. Eataly on site has a variety of relatively well priced no fuss F&B options.
Make sure they don't give you a connecting room though, unless you want to be able to hear everything in the room next to you, and be able to see in the room too if you look under the door.

Some casinos have very long treks to the parking garage; the distance can also be dependent on the specific tower at a property. It can vary from almost no walk at all (such as at Cosmo, where one elevator change will go directly into the garage) to MGM where it could easily be 10+ minutes depending on the tower. So especially if you're leaving the property in your car multiple times a day, I'd look into the self-park situation (maybe check reviews) to make sure it doesn't get annoying.
