Is the Monorail open?

Hi -

I as planning to stay off-strip by the Convention Center. Is the Monorail open? I went to a site that said it was closed, but the site was also not updated in the past 2 months.

Doers anyone have a good source?

Thanks in advance.

I thought an Uber wasn't far off the cost of the monorail !?

Single-use monorail tickets are (were?) $5 which is pretty hefty, but there are unlimited day, multi-day, and weekly passes at varying discount levels. Certainly rideshare will almost always be more convenient.

The bus is likely also more convenient for most travel patterns. IIRC it's $8 for a 24-hour pass. RTCSNV is currently running the strip-only service but not the SDX service that also goes downtown; service updates can be found here: https://www.rtcsnv.com/coronavirus/

Just a bit of info... Rumors are the Monorail may NOT re-open! they filed for Bankruptcy and it looks like the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has agreed to take it over (purchase at Auction) and part of the deal was they had to pay to dismantle it when it was obsolete. the LVCVA is tied in hard with Elon Musk's Boring Co. which is trying to get Tunnels to many of the resorts connected to the Convention Center and Bombardier no longer makes or supports the Monorail cars that LV uses. so... its days/years are numbered it would seem! Wow, that would be something, gengar.

Spent half hour googling and learning about Boring Co

Fascinating ! Many thanks :)

Except for getting to the Convention Center the Monorail is not too useful. Had they extended it to the airport plus convenient CC access it probably would have been a money maker.

But the taxi companies hated that idea and managed to make it not of much value.

I've found the monorail pretty useful for getting around Vegas and will/would miss it. It's nice to be able to just wander down the strip and get back to your hotel in <10 minutes and for $5. That's not going to happen with Uber. Just pulling out onto the strip can take 10 minutes by itself.

Yes, the monorail is dead.

On Nevada Public Radio (KNPR) over the past few days, there has been much discussion of the two miles of tunnel already completed. The cost was only $10M per mile for the 13-foot tubes, a tiny fraction of normal 28-foot-tube subway costs.

There are also proposals to connect to downtown, with at least one member of the Clark County Commission complaining that The Boring Company has been insufficiently transparent about its intentions.
