Vegas hotels and attractions help

Hello,
Thank you VERY much to All for your suggestions. Last week I was working offshore and the internet was at premium. I was only able to download this topic to ready it later, respond to 2 PM and that's all I really appreciate your help.
After reading all posts, we've decided to spend first 2 nights in LAS (hotel to be determined - leaning towards Cosmopolitan - after the planning we can spend up to $250 per night in LAS), then spend 2 days by Grand Canyon. Go back to LAS and spend last 3 nights in Hilton on points.
While staying in Hilton, we can make day trips to Death Valley and Valley of Fire State Park.
Thanks again for your input!

Death Valley in May? There's a reason it's called Death valley. It's going to be roasting. If you go anyway make sure you have lots of water and someone knows where you are.

Yah - tried to convey this more subtly above. That being said, was at a conference in Las Vegas at an off-strip hotel in August a number of years ago (don't ask (or you can ask but the answer is stupid)). Anyway, several of the Europeans who'd travelled to the conference told me that they'd booked rental cars and explicitly intended to drive up to Death Valley - just so that they could say that they had gone to Badwater in August when it was 120F (or more) in the hottest part of the summer...to each their own....

My favorite Hilton property to stay at in Vegas is the Elara. It's a good location (pretty much center strip, smoke/casino free (if you don't want to be around that all the time), but is attached to the Miracle Miles shops and therefore only a short walk to PH. Also a lot of the rooms have just been recently updated. I haven't had a chance to stay at the WA, but from reading the thread over in the Hilton section, sounds like a decent choice too and most nights the same amount of points per night as Elara

I liked Elara back when it was Westgate. However, it's far back off the strip. I mean, even many spots that are "on" the strip aren't really on the strip but Elara really isn't.
It's excellent spot for points tho'. Free is free. Too bad I can't use my free weekend nights there, that and the back of Flamingo. Only at the Tropicana and they are too far down the strip for my liking.

Park MGM (formerly Monte Carlo) has undergone a complete make-over and is now a very nice hotel (miles above any of the ones you stayed at before) and in a perfect strip location. If you sign up for mlife (even just the base level with no status), the rates are $63 - $71 for most nights in May (weekends are much higher) plus a $37 resort fee, so it's in your ballpark.

A German family was there in summer. They didn't realize how poor a road they were trying to follow. Their disabled vehicle was noticed by accident (from a passing helicopter) months later. Their bones were only found nearly 20 years later when a search-and-rescue guy who had gotten interested in the case realized where they had actually gone looking for help. (Their maps had a military base they could probably reach. They didn't realize there would be no guards at the boundary.)

Death Valley in May is going to be perhaps 100 degrees - at 8% humidity.
It really is a dry heat.
Thousands of people go to Death Valley in May and even July (!) and somehow survive to tell the tale.

And something I just ran into about the place:

Firsthand account from the guy who developed a theory on where they might have ended up and then did a bunch of crazy remote backcountry hikes to find their remains: The Hunt for the Death Valley Germans
... and now here I am 2+ hours later having read the whole thing from start to finish. Fascinating story, but I think I'll stick to slightly less ambitious hiking goals

Cosmo is out of my price range. $67 per day just for the parking and resort fee. We'll be staying first 2 nights in Paris casino, on the third day flying to LAX for the weekend (paid 26K Delta pesos for C+ and F LAS-LAX-LAS). Then staying 1 night in Hilton property at LAS (don't know which one yet), and Monday morning we are leaving for Grand Canyon. Planning on staying 1 or 2 nights somewhere East of LAS.
How are the hotels in Bullhead City and Laughlin? My first 2 choices are Tropicana or Aquarius Casino. Any suggestions for hotels in that area?
Thanks

What are your interests? Do you like the outdoors? If so, I would highly suggest camping. Dirt cheap, plenty of excellent choices, and you get extra time to experience the destinations of the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, and wherever else.
As an additional note, it sounds like you already booked your LAS-LAX RT flights, but if not, consider driving from LAX to LAS. You could stop at Sequoia National Forest and Death Valley along the way (both of which are excellent and totally worth seeing -- and DV is definitely not too hot).
