NO COVER CHARGE if you plan to gamble at a nightclub or pool party!
 

I thought I would pass along a tip to those that gamble and want to visit a nightclub or pool party in Las Vegas, Reno or anywhere in Nevada.

If you are truly there to gamble, under Nevada Gaming Laws - they can not charge you a cover charge to get in. You get in for free.

Here is an example and a photo I took at Gold Diggers Nightclub at the Golden Nugget (Downtown). The same applies for many pool parties and the few nightclubs that offer gaming. They all put up a small sign stating this.

A few examples where this works is Rehab at Hard Rock, Gold Diggers Nightclub downtown. Perhaps others younger than myself could chime in on other places that offer gaming. :confused: I am well past my nightclub and pool party days. :eek:

Someone that used to work at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino told me about this Nevada law.

EBC, XS, Marquee, Rehab all have gambling.

How much gambling is required to meet this requirement?

I would guess whatever the table minimum is, perhaps $10-25 per hand. Slots/video poker if they have 25 cent machines - 25 cents. If they have $1 machines - $1. I do not think they can make you play more than the minimum bet or set any limit, under Nevada law. They still must let you in for free even if you only want to place one bet. After you are done gaming, I am sure they could ask you to pay the cover charge, but I doubt they would.

Couldn't they just refuse entry? I have a hard time believing that this works, especially when clubs have massive lines.

It works because it is Nevada State Law (through the Gaming Commission). Not only can they not refuse entry, you are a priority.

So I could skip the line, go directly to the bouncer, and say, "In accordance with NRS 463.15995, I would like to enter this establishment for the purposes of gambling," and they will let me in immediately?

Very interesting... especially if you can cut the line and stay in the club (w/o paying cover) after playing for a bit.

I am sure if you said you were going to call the Nevada Gaming Commission if they did not let you in, you might get to enter with the "hot chicks". :cool: :D

In my experience most bouncers rarely even let someone cut the line to talk to them. Maybe if you went early enough you could pull it off.
Does every club even have gambling inside? And if so...I am guessing the tables have such high minimum that you are better off paying the cover.

Before anyone gets too excited, be aware that this will definitely not work at places like EBC/Surrender, XS, or Marquee, and trying to quote NRS 463.15995 would be counter-productive - that's actually the section of the law that explicitly allows those places to charge cover.

NRS 463.15995 was added ten years ago by state senate bill 444 in order to allow licensees to charge admission for entry to certain qualified areas in which gaming is conducted. Venues that don't qualify can charge non-gamers as long as they post the sign and let gamers in for free, but since 2005 if a gaming venue has received permission from the State Gaming Control Board (and many have), they can charge everyone for entry.

Purely a guess on my part, but I can't believe that "We have to let you in without a cover" and "We have to let you in right away" aren't the same thing.

Imagine that any venue is already at the legal capacity limit for fire codes? They won't let people in.

I doubt though that they could get away with somehow having a line that moved very quickly for "non-gamblers" and one that moved slowly for "gamblers."

My uninformed guess is that the bouncers are trained in the rules. Why does a club want trouble with the gaming commission? If they want to make everybody pay a cover, take out the gambling.

And why would they have a prohibitive table minimum? Why not just eliminate the gambling entirely? What are they going to gain by having one or two $100 tables?

Typically blackjack, sometime craps. I've played at XS, Marquee/MDC & Encore Beach Club, don't recall seeing tables at Hakkasan, Light, or Life.

I know I've heard of anecdotes for people getting "gambling" entry wristbands for at least Encore Beach Club, but the person relating the tale to me wasn't sure if the wristband was a benefit for amount of play or to allow required access to play.
