Dancers, dignitaries mark start of $4 billion Resorts World Las Vegas
With traditional Chinese thunder drummers stirring excitement and ornately costumed lion dancers displaying their own brand of cultural athleticism, the north end of the Strip came to life Tuesday with a groundbreaking for the $4 billion Resorts World Las Vegas project.
A host of dignitaries welcomed Malaysia-based Genting Group Chairman and CEO K.T. Lim to Nevada in an event kicking off the first phase of construction of the first built-from-the-ground-up megaresort on the Strip in a decade.
The event was staged in a tall, air-conditioned tent on the site across the street from the shuttered Riviera, the future front entrance to the Las Vegas Global Business District. The Riviera closed its doors 27 hours before the groundbreaking.

This is very good news for Las Vegas! This will surely help the construction workers get back to work. ^

look forward to all the travel crazy post pandemic amateurs to stress test this new prop and see how it goes. i would imagine its just another virgin hotel headache. obviously they need to start making money ASAP. cant sit around in huge debt any longer. but just like most tech, i dont like being early adopter first user. want to see reports and reviews first. this is a mega resort with many moving parts and still under massive construction. im sure visitors still remember how park MGM felt like during construction. same with virgin. even the mixed reviews of circa is a good indicator of what happens when "launching a new resort while still being made".
Unless conventions return, LAS will have lots of empty hotel rooms (particularly on weekdays).

2) totally possible resorts world would have new unique games since its a new casino. TBD.
3) travel industry shotgun recoil bounce back is in full force. just look at the rates all over the US in tourist heavy cities. they are skyrocketing. basically "COVID is over". personally, im going to sit this one out and focus on opportunities both personally and professionally and watch everyone else stampede into travel like a walmart black friday sale. at this point, everyone has hotel elite status and massive number of points to unload. anytime the herd is going one direction, i like to be a contrarian and look for arbitrage. im going to watch from the sidelines and plan accordingly for big plays in 2-3 years.

I was there for the 11 pm opening. Got on line about 10:30 pm. It’s a big space. $25 minimum blackjack tables. I sat down at a $15 BJ table and said to the dealer I was glad to see this on their opening night. The supervisor said it was a mistake and changed all the tables to a $25 minimum. Played for about 15 minutes after waiting for 15 minutes for them to unlock the chips. No table started at 11 pm. All began about 11:15. It looks like they have some good Asian street food (and Mexican) street food restaurants around the edges of the casino. Went to check out the poker room and sports book. Sports book is in a weird location (have to go through a bar to get there) and it is really small. Poker room looks nice. Took a long time to cash out at the cashier for some strange reason. They seem to have a strange procedure they need to go through to turn your chips into cash. Maybe it was just first night problems. Probably too much information of stuff you didn’t care about, but I was there.

Great read, thanks for posting sportsguymichael
I read somewhere that the chips are ”chipped” to help with their stats / data collection - maybe this causes the delay at the cashier?

Stayed at RW for the first time this weekend (have usually been staying at Aria the last year or two). My host is familiar with me from a previous property and put me into a suite that ended up being at Crockford's West (which is actually through a walkway and through the other side of the Hilton lobby -- the front desk told me they realllocated the top floors there to be considered part of Crockford's instead of Hilton) with a strip view. Great room, plenty of outlets everywhere, wireless charging pad built in to the clock next to the bed and also in one of the tables in the sitting room.
Observed or directly experienced several interactions across multiple departments in both hotel and casino that suggested there are still a lot of newer employees unfamiliar or green with procedures etc. So it doesn't seem like they've gotten all the kinks worked out yet, but the hard product is quite nice and I'm sure they'll iron out the other issues.
Food was a bit of a disappointment for me. Did not find the food hall all that exciting -- tried dishes from a wide variety of the places and everything was ok, just not impressive. One nice touch is that you can order from multiple outlets in a single kiosk order and they text you as it becomes available at each place. Also ate at ˇViva! and Brezza, which continued the theme of being merely ok.
Starlight Lounge on the 66th floor in the Conrad was nice, great atmosphere and views, with cocktail prices to match (luckily they were comped if you were in the slot tournament going on)
