Safe for walking on strip at night?

All,

Will be in LV mid-October :) Haven't been there in 10+ years so quite a bit has changed I'm sure lol

I remember the strip being very crowded and safe for tourists until late at night. Is it still that way? I'll have some evenings alone while roommate attends conference and wouldn't mind going out by myself to take it all in, especially during the weekend! Am staying mid-strip.

Thank you in advance!

I find it safe, as does my post-retirement age mother. Given that it can be pretty crowded at any hour, normal common sense re: pickpockets, etc. should prevail. The people trying to get your attention with cards advertising adult services are annoying as all get out but harmless.

I agree those guys are harmless but the somewhat recent trend of the aggressive guys giving out the "free" CDs can seem somewhat threatening. I've encountered these guys in front of Planet Ho and on the bridge towards the Cosmo.

One time one of them started following me yelling "why don't you want my music?" ...umm, maybe because I'm 50 years old?

Good to know not much has changed, including those literature guys...sigh...

New about the CDs though, am pretty sure I don't want one?? lol

I think this is right. Just walk with purpose if you find yourself not in the midst of others.

There are so many surveillance cameras monitoring everything around The Strip that I think you'd have to be stupid to try anything petty.

Yeah. Violence is not an issue if you're adjacent to any of the major casinos. Pickpockets, though, work stealthily and can ply their evil even on camera. This is especially relevant downtown as the distance between the safe zone and drug territory is very short.

I grabbed as many as I could and hid them in my co-worker's cubicle. Took him two years to find them all. :D

You are quite safe. I am not there until November now. :)

No issues walking at all. I routinely start at the southern end of the strip (New York, New York/MGM) and walk all the way to the Wynn then back at night and I've never felt unsafe. However, if you do, just hop a cab, they're really cheap ^

+1, except....I believe you cannot flag down a cab on the street. You would have to go to a hotel/casino taxi line or other area where cabs pick up and drop off.
You may want to do that if you get tired of walking, but I wouldn't worry about needing to do it because you feel unsafe. The Strip is always busy and I feel safe all the time when walking there. I've never been outside at 3:00 in the morning, though...
Just be aware of your surroundings and have a great time. :)

Correct--you can't flag down taxis. Taxis only pick up from taxi stands or where you call them to. Allowing them to pick up on the Strip would cause havoc.

I wouldn't even feel unsafe on the Strip if there weren't others around--casino security covers the approaches, not just inside. Look around--you'll find plenty of camera domes.

If you're ready to take a cab and want to go from one Strip hotel to another, be sure to tell the cab driver to drive entirely on the Strip. A friend told me that cab drivers love to take longer routes on, for example, Frank Sinatra Drive, and even overshoot your destination hotel so as to make a u-turn onto the Strip and then another u-turn to your hotel. Tell the driver to go directly on the Strip to your destination hotel.
