Which hotel chain to stay in at Las Vegas?
I'm going to Las Vegas for a business trip in September, and I want to earn some extra hotel points for future use.
- Hilton - Marriott - Hyatt - Priority Club - SPG (Sheraton) Of those hotel chains, I only have Gold status with Hilton Honors. I have some points with Marriott, Hyatt, and Priority Club. I have never stayed at any of their Las Vegas hotels. Also, I'm going to finally apply for the SPG AMEX card if the signup bonus increases to 30,000 starpoints this summer. I'm looking to stay near the strip, preferably near the Venetian. Any suggestions? Thank you! |
Venetian/Palazzo stays can earn Priority Club points - http://www.venetian.com/Company-Information/IHG/
Marriott - http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...ph-collection/ Cosmopolitan is on the strip, but it's pretty far from Venetian/Palazzo. These are all fantastic hotels. Cosmo tends to draw a younger crowd, and seems to be louder late at night too. Cosmo is newer, so their rooms look fantastic compared to V/P (though I think at least V has started some room refurbs; haven't been paying attention to the progress on that). |
Hilton does have the Elara, a recently-acquired condo-style tower (this was formerly known as the Planet Hollywood Westgate Tower).
Google Maps lists distance from Cosmo to Venetian as 0.9 miles. I would say that Elara would be a few tenths of a mile more. I was at the Cosmo last month and highly recommend it. I was also at Palazzo last fall and was very pleased - all-suites, nicely-appointed. If your work event is in the Sands Exhibition Center, you will have easy access to the convention hall from either Palazzo or Venetian. |

In addition to fabulous rooms, they all have great dining options as well. |
Thank you guys so much for the responses!
I had absolutely no idea some of the big hotels (Venetian, Palazzo, Cosmo, Elara) were part of Priority Club, Marriot, Hilton. |
Given the choice, I would certainly NOT stay at the Hyatt Place, which is off Strip and a typical Hyatt Place.
I like the rooms at the Palazzo, which are a bit larger than those at the Venetian--either would be among the largest entry level rooms on the Strip. |
So just to round out the discussion, there's a Westin property (The Westin Las Vegas, fka the Westin Casuarina) that's part of SPG program one block east of the strip near Flamingo/Bill's/Bally's.

That's actually the hotel that I decided to go with. Hopefully I'll receive my new SPG card before my trip so I can use it at the property.
Why not stay at the Venetian or Wynn or perhaps Trump if you prefer less gambling environment? Forget your chain status - it is usually of little value in Vegas. |

This is a mediocre choice in general and a very poor one of you need to be close to venetian.

1. The Cosmopolitan - part of Marriott/Ritz Carlton Rewards 2. Venetian/Palazzo - Part of Intercontinental 3. Flamingo - Hilton Planet Hollywood was part of SPG until recently; but the Westin on Flamingo isn't that far off the strip. |

I would strongly disagree with that.

Westin on flamingo is indeed not too far but why? |
If you don't need to be on-strip, consider the Doubletree (formerly Doubletree Club). It's a non-gaming hotel south of the airport. After being on the strip for a few days, walking into the place can be quite a relief.
Hyatt's only property in town is a Hyatt Place. And you likely know that the LVH is no longer Hilton-affiliated. (I recently stayed at the LVH, and I don't recommend it. It was one of the nicest $30 hotel rooms I've ever had, but it's still a mediocre hotel.) |
