LAS T2 is a dump

No lounge ... no Starbucks ... coffee from the only fast food joint (A&W?) was piss ... I was still drunk at 9am and I couldn't think of a worse place to burn another two hours before the flight to YUL :( Most of my travels are international or to YVR/YYZ but I can't remember the last time I had to do time at such a dump of an airport. Even the rather primitive ANU/SJO/MLA/AGP was more cognitively engaging to hang out in than LAS T2.

Would I have been better off flying CO out of Terminal D?

Do a search. Even with all its faults, most frequent Vegas travellers actually prefer T2 to T1 for the short lines and general convenience. I guess with Continental there is now a lounge option after security which could sway things away but T2 isn't that bad as long as you know what you are getting yourself into.

T2 is pretty crappy compared with the United gates...kinda like downtown vegas compared with the Strip.

T2 is great to arrive at though.. super quick to get in/out of there. Dull though sure..

Too many threads on this...BUT

I will take the quiet'ness of T2 over the main terminal at LAS any day of the week...

Plus you never wait in that insane line for a cab

D Gate is the best part of McCarran airport.... or the newest at least. It has a wide array of restaurants, a CO President's lounge and other pretty good stores.

Kinda like the pre-clearance area at YYC - end up eating Burger King on the way to Vegas and the way back (it's BK at LAS T2, not A&W). Ick. Like others have said though, the ease of travel in and out of T2 is a major plus compared to T1.

If someone is still drunk at 9am,finding the proper terminal and gate would be high on the list of priorities.T2 is much easier to navigate, surprised you would be allowed onto a/c.

T2 is much better....you don't need to get there 2 hours ahead either!!

They still let you pass through security and allow you to board the flight?

I don't get dramatic when drunk, just pleasantly buzzed :) Last send-off drinks with my buds probably around 7:30am, I still had to pack (almost left the Airport Express behind) and check out of the hotel. I clean up good (i.e. don't smell boozy) and just as polite as ever. Heck, I checked in at the kiosk with no problem, got through TSA, and had the green cert ready for the GA. I don't get this North American assumption that just because someone is drunk, they have to be belligerent and unpleasant to be around.

Then you get those that will fall asleep standing up... :D

T1 D gates is nice but I still prefer T2. Downright fast and dirty. Less walking and less of a zoo.

Another vote for T2... no glitz but easy arrival and departure...short security lines and hardly any wait for luggage.

Silver Fox Jul 5, 2010 3:26 pm

I would say that no Starbucks is a plus.

The T1/T2 debate is a good example of the common trade-off between comfort and convenience.

Sometimes we can have both, but not always.

I usually value convenience higher than comfort, but I know many folks who go the other way.

To each his own....
