taxi tip question

From all the information I've seen a 15% tip is appropriate for a taxi ride.
Early this morning I took a taxi from Paris Casino to the airport. The fare was $10.50, and I added (15%) $1.50 for a total of $12.00.
The driver went into a tirade, saying that I had to give a minimum of $2.00 and ultimately called me a piece of s--t. I just wanted to get away from him, but should have copied the license number down.
Anyone else ever have a similar problem.
[PS: I had only two small carryon's which he did NOT have to help me with.]

15% is the norm as far as I'm concerned.

What did the doorman at Paris have to say? He should have dealt with him.

I went from Paris to the airport, the altercation occurred at the airport.

I would have told him to go to hell and would have asked for my $1.50 back.

Same here. It's no wonder that cab drivers in Vegas are considered among the lowest forms of cheating scum to roam the earth.

Oops too much Sudafed for my cold this morning. Can't believe I misread that. The only time I've had a taxi driver grumble in Las Vegas was under the same circumstance -- heading to the airport. And I tipped a bit more than you (yours was certainly adequate). I remember he asked me how I did on the trip and I mentioned pretty well. Now I always answer that question with, "Oh that reminds me, I need to get some cash, is there a pawn shop on the way?"

Glad I stuck to suttles/buses.

Tipping in Vegas has gotten "out of hand", if one followed the suggested tipping amounts listed in the various Vegas publications, one could easily spend over $100 in tips, just for nominal services: bell desks, taxis, doormen, bell boys, etc. (not including restaurants).
How one did on a given trip should not affect how much they leave in tips. From the tipping guides, taxis and restaurants are generally 15% (for restaurants, doubling the sales tax is a simpler arithmetic computation than computing 0.15 x the check amount:)

There are a lotta aggressive rip-off scumbags driving taxis and not all are in LV. I make it a rule NEVER to tip if the person tries to rip me off (or if they request a tip in cash) and I also always report the guy to the local taxi commission via phone ASAP. A nice hint is always pay by credit card.

Sorry you didn't get the guy's medallion/license/whatever they have. I always rent a car in Vegas due to cab rip-offs (I think my tunneling thread got shut down.) unless I have to.

I think the best advice here was the person who said you should have asked for the $1.50 back.

I'm renting a car as well. Last trip I only drove it to and from the airport/Venetian. Total rental was more than a roundtrip taxi but I deal with no .

I'll quote the Quiet Lion on tipping in Vegas: "No matter how much you tip, its never enough".

well it is easy for people to say they would have asked for the $1.50 back, but it not worth a physical fight. I think you did the right thing

That's why I mostly stick to Atlantic City.

The cab drivers are more courteous, and completely full service dealers.

Like my cab driver Mo (short for Mohammed) the other night from Bally's to Borgata. Nice conversation, and gave me a full menu of the girls that were available for hire that evening. Didn't need to worry about his medallion number, as he also gave me his personal cell phone number.

Gotta love Atlantic City. :p:p:p:p
