Too many people come to Las Vegas as a one time trip, and so don't make too much of a fuss with RF. If enough "regulars" start protesting, then this is probably the only way that they will permanently be removed.

I don't like resort fees, but the Internet and Gym fees are even worse. So in this case, at least for me, it may be a plus.

I wish they would bring back the turn down service (in the resort rooms, I imagine they still have turn down in the tower rooms), and throw a newspaper and coffee maker in the rooms while they were at it.

They're cutting off their nose to spite their face.

The money their gonna loose by me taking just one less vacation a year because I'm pissed my bill will be $60 to $80 higher for something I don't want or use...

I doubt they will ever be permanently removed. They're here to stay as it is another source of revenue. However, they may lax the rules for those on comps and probably only if you voice displeasure.

Per the Vegas.com link, MGM Grand has started charging a $10 /day RF. I was just there 2 weeks ago and didn't see any RF added. Is this new as of June?

As per the long standing LV tradition [inappropriate material removed] the ever-present outstretched hand now also reaches even deeper into your pocket.

Wow, this sucks. Wynn/Encore used to be one of my favorite hotels... now looks like I need to find other hotels to enjoy.

- Gym: No, I almost never go to the gym when I'm in Vegas. If I do, I'll pay it maybe once (with spa access at most other hotels) but definitely not every day.
- Internet: No, I already pay $30/month for internet access on my phone and that's sufficient for me. I don't bring my laptop when I travel. Who sits in their room surfing the net?
- Telephone: I have a cell phone. Enough said.

Looks like I'll only stay at Bellagio or Aria from now on when it comes to MGM hotels. Harrah's casinos have never been my favorite but suddenly they're looking a lot more appealing...

That stinks - although I'm not prepared to switch favorite hotels on the basis of $30/nt. Actually, I have often paid for both gym access and internet in the past so not all bad. I shall however, make sure to make a point of mentioning it upon checking in next time.

Generally, I'm firmly against splitting out any element of either a hotel stay or a flight, for that matter. Give us a price and let us know what it includes, and stop the nonsense of ancilliary charges in addition to what you thought you were going to pay.

Very dissappointing, Mr Wynn.

Does anybody know if they are waiving the fee for existing reservations? I never would have selected Encore for my stay at the end of July if I had know I would have to pay an extra $20 a night. I purchased a package so unfortunately I do not have the option to cancel and book somewhere else.

I wonder if part of Wynncore's decision to assess the fee is the fact that they regularly use opaque channels (Priceline, et al) to dispose of unsold rooms.

My guess is that these "value-driven" guests do not, as a group, generate a lot of revenue at on-property restaurants, the spa, etc. Assessing the resort fee is a way to substantially raise revenue from that source - and they must have calculated that people who book through standard (non-opaque) channels would not cancel their plans just because of the existence of the resort fee.
