Jeju Island is such a beautiful place to visit

I didn't find many posts talking about Jeju Island but it is by far one of my favourite places to visit when travelling in South Korea. The island reminds me so much of Hawaii with its natural beauty from volcanic activity. I last visited back in 2019 for approx 3 days and these are some of the more memorable places we visited:
  • Manjanggul Caves
  • Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak
  • Hamdeok Beach
  • Jeongbang Waterfall
  • Cheonjiyeon Waterfall
  • Jusangjeolli Cliff
  • Yongmeori Coast

Thank you! Honestly I was blown away by how beautiful the island was.. I went in with zero expectations (my wife told us we had to go stopover in Jeju before we flew into Seoul).

Good suggestion by your wife! Apparently it was one of the seven wonders of the natural world. Looking forward to trying all the seafood there as well!

I guess tastes differ. We just spent several days on Jeju and were rather underwhelmed. The place was way overdeveloped (in a careless and ugly way), completely overrun with tourists, and the sites were mediocre. The entire island seems to be an endless sprawl of random construction.

We kept saying to ourselves how it is nowhere near as beautiful as Hawaii. We visited most of the sites the OP mentioned, and even hiked to the top of Hallasan. The fact that you need a QR code for a hike, and there is a turnstile at the entrance, hints at how rugged and unspoilt the rest of the hike will be...

On the other hand, we had a great time in the vibrant and lively city of Busan. Writing from a KTX train.

I agree, the island is indeed very beautiful! I went there in 2009. I do want to go back, but the bugs at the top of the volcano drove me nuts! My white T-shirt had black spots all over it by the time I started descending! I don't know how to deal with it!

You can't actually compare Jeju and Hawaii no way no how. That's just a dumb tourist slogan like how they call Gamcheon Village in Busan the Machu Pichu of Korea. Big LOL on that one. Also, if you actually live in Korea, I can definitely say that getting away to Jeju is nice, definitely feels way different because there's so much nature and much more chill and open compared to Seoul life. Very different and noticeable. If you come from somewhere like the US with tons of nature at your doorstep, yeah no. Not as amazing.
