No they are not. CC is widely used in Korea, but not Amex. Amex acceptance will be limited to larger department stores, international retailers and major tourist attractions.

Not quite sure I agree here. I managed to use an Amex in plenty of 7-11 locations and a few independent restaurants in Seoul. Online use (including for food delivery services etc.) is a total pain as each bank seems to operate their own payment gateway.

You won't be completely shut out with AMEX like you would in many other countries, but Amex acceptance cannot even compare to Visa and MC in Korea.

AMEX is ABSOLUTELY accepted everywhere. I have one. Korean issued, but still an AMEX on the card and it has worked at every single store, train station, website like my other Visa & MC card. Several years ago, sure, no one had them - but now they're everywhere and no issues.

Yeah will have to agree with the above, lots of Korean banks have AMEX credit cards. The acceptance is probably a tick below Visa/MC, but it's not that noticeable these days.

Same here. Didn't have any issue only having AMEX in my wallet.

It's been about 5 years since I've used AMEX for my primary card. Every once in a while I'd find a place that wouldn't take it. You didn't have any trouble not having a backup?

What about mobile wallets? I have Amex card on my phone with Samsung Pay. Has anyone had any experience with this?

As Samsung Pay was started here in Korea, it's widely accepted. It's mostly done through MST and basically every place is used to processing it.
