Transit in Gimpo?
Hey guys and gals,
I have a quick question and I hope I’m posting this in the correct forum. (Mods, please move if I posted in the wrong forum). I will be traveling to Asia next April (yay!). I will be flying from KIX to GMP on OZ 1115 and then getting onto KE 1243 to CJU. I assume that I don’t have to go through immigration? Or do I? I’m assuming that I will have to fill out the entry form when I land in CJU. Please let me know if this is correct. Thanks a bunch! |
I think you might have to go through immigration. KIX-GMP lands in the international part of Gimpo airport, then you have to transfer to the domestic terminal to get the GMP-CJU flight.
Is it possible for you to fly to Jeju directly? |

Is it possible for you to fly to Jeju directly? My itinerary is LAX-ICN-NRT, KIX-GMP, GMP-CJU-GMP, ICN-LAX. The bold is booked with my United miles. Hopefully, 2 hours is enough time to transfer to the domestic terminal. |
Yes, I think 2 hours will be plenty. The domestic terminal is really easy to get through. Once you check in, it will be very easy to get through security and walk to the gate. I would say 10 minutes from security to gate.
Going from international part of GMP to the domestic is also easy, but it is a bit of a walk. I usually use the underground tunnel that connect the two terminals. They do have moving walkways there, but it will still be a walk. As of Aug 2013, a portion of the walkway towards the international terminal is under renovation, so it is a bit congested but still easily walkable. I would factor in 20 minutes to walk from one terminal to the other. |

Hopefully there will be no delays and going through immigration will be a breeze. Oops! I just realized I will have less than 2 hours ><' OZ 1115 should get into GMP at 1PM, and KE 1243 departs at 2:40.. |
I still think it is doable. GMP usually is fairly efficient in getting around.

GMP domestic check-in closes 20 minutes before departure? (Or is it 15?)
Getting from International to Domestic, you can take the free shuttle bus or you can walk it through the metro station (will talk about 15 minutes to walk). With 2 hours, you might even have time to very quickly explore the Lotte Mall! |
Thanks for all the input, you guys. I really appreciate it.
Does anyone know how long immigration might take? Thanks once again, everyone :) |
Yeah that Lotte Mall is impressive. The food court on the first floor is pretty good.
Immigration is usually fairly quick. Just have all your documents ready before landing. I would estimate maybe 10 minutes for immigration as long as no other large aircraft deplanes just in front of you. I wouldn't quite run to immigration but I would make it a brisk walk to hopefully get in front of as many people as possible. |
Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
I'll do my best to get through immigration as quickly as I can. I'll be praying for no delays and hopefully I won't have to check in any luggage. :) |
Hey everyone!
Hope everyone's been well. There had been a change to my itinerary... now I am arriving at Incheon at 11:20 AM (OZ 115) and departing from Gimpo at 2:05 (KE 1219). Does anyone know how long immigration is going to take? I'm hoping that the lines will not be long so I can leave Incheon around noon. Anyone has done this before with 2hrs 45 mins? Thanks! |
Just curious, why not route from KIX to PUS, and then to CJU? Or even go to Fukuoka and then straight to CJU?
To answer your question, immigration is usually a breeze. I haven't had to wait more than 10 minutes and this was during a time when large number of people were arriving. A tip someone wrote earlier is to stay in the Foreigner line that is closest to the Korean Citizen line. Korea Customs will move people over from the Foreigner line over to the Korean Citizen line to get everyone through quickly. So be prepared for that opportunity. Earlier I wrote that taking the airport express was a good option. Well the limo bus is also a very good choice as well. The advantage is that it will take you direct to the departure level entrance. Compare that to the airport train where you have to walk someways from the platform to the check in desk. Anyhow, you have multiple options. |
If this was LGA to JFK, I wouldn't recommend.
However, ICN to GMP is a breeze. Limo Bus will take you there in 30 min. |
