The one in the photo PH-KCG was delivered in 1995, the oldest model is PH-KCA (Amy Johnson) who was delivered in 1993, the newest model is PH-KCI (Moeder Teresa, Mother Theresa) she was delivered in 1998. Source Airfleets.net.

Nope, only 2 or 3 have been equipped as of yet. I recently flew on either Marie Curie or Ingrid Bergman, and it did not have the PTVs yet.

Does anyone have some kind of idea when KLM plans to complete this retrofit?

Cheers,

As economy cabins go, that doesn't look too bad. I used to love the KL MD-11s before they installed the WedgieBeds.

I am really surprised that KLM is spending money to retrofit these planes. Old, not fuel efficient..

I believe it is a weight issue.

I am missing not sure I understand the weight issue (but would like to, it sounds interesting). Most airlines have PTV on their 747s (most Asian airlines, BA, UA, etc). And if it is about the extra weight of PTV vs main screen, presumably you don't add more in the 747s than you would in the M11s. Sorry if I'm missing something obvious which I probably am, but thanks in advance for the extra informaiton.

Everyone, I have had to do a considerable amount of cleanup on this thread. Those of you who are not spending some time away from FT as a result please remember to be respectful of one another.

Thanks.

They will do so, I hear conflicting news about the exact date of implementation and whether the oldest 2 all-passenger planes (BFA and BFB) will be included or not.

Jetfan,

Do you know what made KLM change their minds, especially in this time of high oil prices extra weight should be an issue?
When could we expect the implementation, I know your sources are conflicting, but maybe you could give a rough estimate ( maybe together with the implementation of the shortly announced Y+ product)?

i remember on a website, it said KLM will install Ambient Mood lighting (on all long haul jets), new curtains and new bulkhead designs.
Hope they do!
