Which 744 to the US?
 

I'm flying AMS-SFO and LAX-AMS in May, wondering which planes are currently doing that route - according to my booking it's a 747 of some description. Does anyone know if that route is generally covered by refitted planes or the old cradle seat planes?

Funnily enough I prefer the old 744 seats for sleeping, but the IFE is much better on the new slippery seats.....

AMS SFO will be on a full passenger B744, which will be equipped with the new seats. LAX AMS will be on a combi version, some of which have been reconfigured, while others are still flying with the old seats.

Thanks for that answer; one more question - I flew the new seats on a 777 and I can't remember whether the IFE in WBC was in the seat back or on a separate screen in the armrest, can anyone confirm? Also, we are booked in seats 1A/1B for our AMS-SFO flight, will the screens be in the seat arm or on the bulkhead in front of us?

All seats in KLM WBC, whether new or old business class, have the TV screens in the arm rest.

I fly LAX-AMS about 20 times a year and for quite some time now, I have only seen the new seats on this flight.

Actually, KLM deploys all combi aircraft on the LAX route, so there is really no predicting whether one will get an aircraft with the old or new seats. In the last ten days or so the following aircraft went to LAX:

Since there are by now more aircraft with the retrofitted cabins, the chance of hitting one of those is obviously greater.

Yesterday we actually had the old seats again. "Old Seats" indeed, since on my seat the footrest was missing!!

I am flying KLM in June of 2008 in economy class on a 747. Will they have the personal entertainment systems in on my flight? new seats? What type of entertainment will they have? Is it a combo 747 or the normal 747.

The KLM 747 does not have PTV's in economy, regardless of whether it's being retrofitted with the new interior. Only business class on the 747 has PTV's. You will have a screen at the front of the cabin.
