747-400 seating
Hi, I just called KLM helpdesk to select seats on KL888 and KL887 from Ams to HKG. They said they can only give exit row seats on day of departure. Then he gave me 16DE for me and my companion.
Is it because I am just a SE that they don't give exit row seats? And does anyone know if 16DE are in the last row? They said so but I seem to have read in the Forum 17DE are the last row. Thanks |
I rarely have problems obtaining a seat on row 9, but I am a PE.
17 is the last row on the starboard side of the aisle, 18 on the port side. johan |
Oh, I have specifically asked for the last row and he gave me 16DE.
Maybe should call them back to straight things out. |
We never used to have problems getting these either. However when we booked seats to JNB the other day we couldnt get 11 DE or any exits. A really helpful woman at KLM UK Res said she had seen this alot recently. She sent an email to Head office and got them to release 11DE for us specially. The PE status did not do it automatically.
|
You are right. KLM replied no exit row or 11DE. And I requested an upgrade 2 months prior to departure and the answer is no. Looks like I have to ask again on departure. As I depart from Milan. Can they do that in Milan or have to wait until arrive in Ams. Not sure if I have enough time to do that!
Btw, I just called KLM and they replied on KL887 and KL888, there is no 17DE. |

I think it is a combi on this flight and you will find in the front section of Y (old C class area ) there is seats that are 2 x 3 config and 11 D&E are good. The ones at the back of each section tend not have any recline from what I remember seeing
|
That will be terrible if there is not any recline. It is a 12 hr flight, no joke. There is no recline in the last row of this section or in all sections? I kind of like the last row as there is no one pushing the back of my chair.

At the time availability was J4 C4 Z0, but nevertheless I was told no seat was available. Today it is J0 C0 ZC, but to my surprise the agent said she had three seats available. When she tried to confirm the upgrade, however, the seats suddenly vanished. The agent's explanation was that somebody else must have booked all three seats in the thirty seconds it took her to type in my data. Weird! johan |
These upgrade things are very confusing. I wonder if I would ever get to use my mileage. Are other European airlines easier on these upgrade things? I have claimed mileage tickets with Alitalia before. Every time it is very fast and convenient. They even let me change my flight without charging extra miles. But they don't fly to HKG anymore, and I must admit KLM tickets are cheaper.
And does anyone know if the last row seats 16DE recline or not? I am kind of worried... |
I am pretty sure they dont have the same recline as the others as there is a claokroom right behind you.
|
Is the recline very limited or just a bit? I called again and they insisted there is no 11DE. Maybe they are really taken
|
So does anyone have any experience of flying in 16DE or 18ABC? Please advise me if it is terrible!
