KLM miles on MAS

I have registered for Flying dutchman program of KLM. They say that I'll receive my membership card after taking a qualifying flight. I haven't flown with them as yet. But I'll be taking a transpacific flight on MH (KLM partner airliner). I've booked the flight with KLM FD FFP number. Sad part is I'll be creditied with only 70% of the total miles flown for my KLM account.

Can somebody help me to know whether I'll be getting my membership card form KLM? Will MH flight will be a qualifying flight?

Welcome to FlyerTalk kshastry.

Because this is KLM related, I'm going to move it to the KLM forum located off the main FlyerTalk miles page. You can continue to follow it there.

Why would you only be credited with 70% of the miles flown? I know this is the case for Malaysians own Enrich program but nothing in Flying Dutchman program indicates that earning miles on MH would be different than on any other partner...

Umm.. I don't know for sure whether I would get 70% miles or full miles. I browsed MAS website. They have stated (in Partners page) that KLM and NW FFP members will earn 70% of total miles. (Have I read it wrongly)...

Here is the link...
<http://www.malaysiaairlines.com.my/enrich/?menu=mg&mode=mas01>

Will I still get KLM membership card? or do I have to take KLM flight for that? Thanks.

I think you may have read it incorrectly. The MAS site only gives details for enrich: the page you linked to gives you the number of miles earnt flying on KLM, if you are an Enrich member, rather than vice-versa.

With very, very few exceptions, all KLM partner flights earn 100% miles, in any economy fare class. There have been individual promotions where this is not the case, but I can only remember one in the last year (DEL-AMS, originating in India).

I think you will get your FD card after your MAS flight, again I have never heard of needing a qualifying KL flight to get the card.

For information on how KLM FD members earn points, look at http://www.klm.com/uk_en/flying_dutc...line/index.jsp

BTW, I have a related question. According to the KLM website, "You can earn and spend Miles on all scheduled flights operated by Malaysia Airlines. You cannot earn and burn on domestic Malaysian routes"

What does it mean?

stut Sep 29, 2003 6:21 am

The KLM site, self-contradictory? Never!

You can't earn miles, or redeem miles for domestic Malaysian routes on MAS. So, LHR-KUL would get you miles. KUL-PEN, however, wouldn't.

Now, the confusion is as to what MH classifies as 'domestic' for this purpose. Some FD members have reported problems getting miles posted for flights to SIN, BWN and even HKT, despite being in other countries...

apoivre Sep 29, 2003 7:13 am

MAS do regard S'pore and Brunei as being domestic destinations.
On the other hand, Malaysians regard Peninsular Malaysia (Malaya), Sanahh and Sarawak (thee two states on Borneo) as distinct entities. I wonder if a flight from KL to Kuching or KK would get me some miles on my FD account.

And another question: am I likely to get FD miles on a code-share MAS flight? (will be flying Moscow–Tashkent–KL which is code-share MAS and Uzbekistan Airways)

Welcome to this forum!

For getting KL miles the flight has to be OPERATED by a KL partner.

So a flight on Usbekistan airways with MH flightnumber won't qualify. Sorry.

Chances are I'll never know if it's MAS- or MH-operated untill I'm at the gate and can see the logo on the actual plane. Hmmmmm… Looks like I don't have reasons to go to Malysia agter all…

Well, looking at Galileo:

1 SVO TAS 20/1450 1945 HY 604 FA CA YA LA 763 B
2 KUL 20/2205#0840 HY 551 CC DA YC QC HC LC 752 B
3 SVO TAS 20/1450 1945 HY 604 FA CA YA LA 763 B
4 KUL 20/2205#0840 @MH9163 FLIGHT CANCELLED 757 B

Or, in English...

You can fly Moscow-Tashkent-KL on Uzbekistan Airways. The second leg was a codeshare with MAS, operated by HY. However, looking either side of this in Galileo, this codeshare agreement is cancelled as of 20th October this year (and does not appear to resume).

So, either way, you can't earn KLM miles on this route.

It is interesting, this Malaysian domestic thing as I flew KUL-Kuching recently and had the nouse to take my passport with me. No passport = no entry. You should have seen the faces of the Swedish tourists denied entry into an airport that is on the domestic network. You get stamped in and out of certain Malaysian domestic airports.

East and Peninsula Malaysia are under different jurisdictions. Thus going from KUL to KCH or KKB is classified as an international entry by the East Malaysian government.

This is what happens when one part of the country holds the oil http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif, you gotta do what they tellsya to do! The federal govt doesn't want to antagonise the East M'sians as the bulk of the federal budget is funded by East MY oil.

btw - I do not have any problems crediting MH "domestic" flights to NorthWest WP... not sure how this may tie in with FD.

I have flown 27 flights with MH this year.
3 x AMS-KLIA and back, the rest local including Sarawak ,Borneo and East Malaysia.
Most flights have been awarded with mileage
and bonus points on my FD statement. It takes MH some time, and on some occasions I had to remind the FD help desk, but most flights where "in the pocket" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I have called FD desk in Stockholm twice today, asked about which booking class is eligible to earn FD points.

Both of FD Staffs told me that it is MH operated flight in F, C, M class only.

Is it right? or do anyone know more classes which is eligible to earn FD points?
