AMS - CPT how is the ride?
 

I am planning on going to SA a couple of times over the next few months. How is the ride in FC and Coach? I am a NWA elite and plan to upgrade to FC using miles but want to make sure it is worth it.

Last year I did Rome to AMS and did not get good service in FC.

I undersatnd this flight is much longer but is it worth it? Is the food/service that much better? is coach usually 3/4 of more full?

Have taken taken that route a few times. There is no First Class...only Biz and economy. KLM Biz. is OK. Food is marginal but they'll get you there faster than any other airline from AMS. If speed is not of the essence, try taking Kenya Airways in Biz. They have fully flat seats and connect over Nairobi. They operate a 767 from NBO-JNB only on Saturdays so fly out of AMS on Fri. if you want a sleeper seat all the way to SA. That will get you to JoBurg and you can redeem miles on Comair w/ KLM miles to fly to CPT. I slept very well on Kenya Airays and arrived into S.Africa really quite refreshed. I guess I was not clear. I need to go KLM because we will be coming from USA on NWA.

I should have said Biz Class but ready wanted to know on thei 10 hour flight if it is usually filled in coach and I should use miles to upgrade to Biz Class. I don't mine coach as long as I can get a couple seats to myself.

Until October all AMS to CPT flights operate via Jo burg making the flight a long one. It is invariably full in coach and one of the routes we always try and use miles to upgrtade on if we havnt bought business.
