select seating
 
Dear All,
KLM has provided their frequent flyers with select seating for a couple of years now.
However, when flying from LHR, I have not been allocated seat in this area for more than half of the times despite being RW/PE.
Has anyone experience the same at LHR or other airports.
Also I have noticed that in the new PE and GE brochures the select seating is not mentioned any more. Have they just abolished this without telling this. (It must be one of the obvious improvement then!!).

When I check in at LHR, I always ask for select seating because it is never guaranteed out of this airport. I do not know why. I just figured it was the normal RW/PE benefit mystery. Other mysteries include:

Hilton Upgrades
Car Rental Upgrades
Guaranteed Lowest Hotel rates (KLM website benefit???)

I my experience, select seating works fine on flights from Amsterdam. Flying to Amsterdam seems to be a diffent matter. Upon check-in I normally find that I do not have any seat assignment at all, let alone a seat in the select seating zone. The policy of keeping adjacent seats free if possible is usually only adhered to on request.

It is actually possible to reserve a select seat via the helpdesk upto 90 days prior to a flight and with at least 24 hours notice. I always do it this way as you have far more chance of actually getting the seat that you want. If you leave it until check in the seats have normally gone to somebody else.

As far as I am aware it is both GE and PE members that can access this as per the old program with SW and RW.

True, but only if you are flying business class, or intercontinental economy. On intra-European flights it is generally not possible to reserve Y seats in advance. (There would seem to be a few exceptions to the rule though, one of which is NCE. Ask not why).

Oh, right, that explains it. NCE is a F70 (if you fly KL. Its a 733 if you fly HV).
