select seating on AMS-DTW?
hi,
flying a 747(!) AMS-DTW on oct 15 (it's NW metal, i thought they were mostly DC10) and was offered 1A on select seating. apparently business is all in the upper deck, since row 1 is 3-4-3. is 1A good (i like windows) or are there problems with bulging doors and/or legroom, as there are on the exit rows? in which case is 1C (or anything else - exit row in this config?) better? on my return, on 20th, it's a DC10 and the RW helpdesk says NW doesn't allow them a detailed seatplan, which i found odd. i remembered an FT discussion on NW DC10s and booked 22C, but the RW agent couldn't confirm that 22 is an exit row...!!?? ideas? -rishab ps. any FTers in AMS RW lounge on 21st? í have a 5 hr wait between DTW-AMS and AMS-MST and could be in either of the lounges. i think the non-schengen is the only one with a shower though. |
For a seat map for the DC-10:, http://www.nwa.com/travel/trave/seat...0/index2.shtml
(Yes 22 is an exit row). I have had discussion in the past with KL reservations agents in the UK on NW-operated transatlantic flights. It appears that they can access the full seat maps but it is a somewhat convoluted process and not all agents seem to know how to do it. |
thanks nick!

the seat map url is cool, but in the maps for 747s, none of them show economy in row 1!!
frankly i don't think there's room for a 3-4-3 on row 1 of a 747 even if it's used as economy. and the NW maps all have a 2-2 business or first config. for that row. so i wonder what my 1A select seat is going to be...! -rishab |
Rishab, are you sure that your westbound flight is on NW metal ??
KLM has some 747-300`s that have coach in the forward nose section. In that case the first row has nice seats, probadly 40 inches of space |
NW does utilize one daily B744 AMS-DTW. However, there is no row 1 in ecomomy.

what time are you leaving ?
if you leave at 1730 you're on NW. if you leave at 1915 you're on KL. |
