Canada to U.S. What zone?
 
What Zone is service between Canada and the U.S.?

According to Kurz,

"Zone H : All direct flights between the contiguous USA and Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean;" (which I take to mean flights between the lower 48 and destinations in Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean)

but according to Vunder 31, it might be zone E?

Or does Zone E mean routes exclusively within the lower 48, or within Alaska, or within Canada?

Planning to get my 12,000 SPs so thanks in advance for replies.

As with many topics the FD brochure is not clear about this. At first glance it depends on the carrier.

Northwest Airlines : All direct flights between the contiguous USA and Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean are Zone H. All contiguous US domestic flights are Zone E. Any non-NL resident FD member flying between Canada and the contiguous US will get 750 service points in Y, 1,500 in C and 3,000 in F. And flying within the contiguous US a non-NL resident FD member will get per flight 450 in Y, 900 in C and 1,800 in F. Remark that almost every US domestic flight is a 2-class flight, Coach and First. Whether you get 900 points in C or 1,800 in F is discussed in :

Continental Airlines : In the FD brochure under nothing is mentioned on CO. Calling the RW helpdesk (phone +31202001100) you are informed that all CO flights are eligible. For this reason I would stick to what is mentioned under Northwest. To date FD has no list of CO flights excluded from FD like they have for certain Northwest flights, see : http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum28/HTML/000428.html.

Alaska Airlines : All routes within Alaska, USA and Canada are Zone E. Any non-NL resident FD member flying within Alaska, USA and Canada will get 450 service points in Y, 900 in C and 1,800 in F. Alaska Airlines routes between USA and Mexico are Zone F; between Alaska and USA : Zone K; between Alaska-USA and Russia : Zone L; between Alaska and Mexico : Zone L.

In the FD brochure under Alaska Airlines nothing is mentioned relative to Zones flying from Alaska to Canada, Canada to (contiguous) USA, Canada to Russia and Canada to Mexico. The FD brochure statement ‘All routes within Alaska, USA and Canada are Zone E’ is ambiguous. For this reason I would stick to what is mentioned under Northwest. Big chance however that FD will not do so and will treat Alaska Airlines flights from Canada to the contiguous US as a Zone E flight.

In case KL treats a flight from Canada to the contiguous US a zone E flight I recommend you to protest in writing. In arguing with FD staff success however is not guaranteed. Thanks. That shoots down my alternative plan which was to upgrade 4 Canada-U.S. r/t flights.

I have travelled Canada - US on NW and have received H zone points (750 in the back, 1500 in front cabin). I have also done it on a CO ticket (but NW metal) and for some reson didn't get any points - I have been trying to get FD to credit the points for months now but nothing yet.
