Select seating ??

Select seating

Can someone be kind and tell me what this is, and what are the benefits ???

Select Seating is KLM's equivalent of UA's E+ without the legroom, that is, seats at the front of the economy cabin when flying long-haul on an economy fare. I seem to remember KLM implied there was more legroom, but I never noticed anything more than usual.
The only benefit is faster deplaning, and the company of more experienced flyers over that of tour groups. However, you are closer to the babies too http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

You can request it in advance when making your booking for long-haul flights; my success rate when flying on NW metal has been limited. On KL I usually get a good seat.

On intra-Europe flights, there is usually no advance seat assignment; however as a FD Elite you have a fair chance of getting a business class seat (2+3 across instead of 3+3, not bad at all) on 737's, as the size of the C cabin is determined by a moveable curtain. There seems to be more of those seats allocated to Y on older 737-300's than on the new 737-800's.

Brilliant description, monahos !!

That`s exactly right, NW does not care much about Select Seating, seats 27 AB on a DC 10 for me as a RW is just ridiculous, especially when you call them 89 days in advance.........

On the other hand, KLM`S 767 have a few really good seats in ECO with lots of legroom, I would never upgrade on a 767, because Select Seating can be a huge advantage there.SAme on the 743 with WBC only in Upper Deck, first 2 rows are excellent....

Actually an important factor on KL, but a mostly dissapointing experience on NW !!

Thanks for answers..
So the information in the member-guide:
"select seating offers you a little more comfort and peace" "on all KLM and NW operated flight"
Is not quite true....

Well, if you call KL, this is true. On the other hand, if you call NW you can get seats in the front Eco-cabin or even the exit-row reserved in advance. If you're on the same flight like I am, though, you have to call earlier than 89 days to get these, though...;-))!
