CO – KL codeshare co-operation

‘Flying Dutchman’ is a glossy magazine published quarterly in Dutch already for over 20 years.

Page 13 of the 4Q2001 issue provides insight in the CO – KL co-operation relative to code sharing. KL pax can use the CO network via Houston and Newark hubs. Continental and Continental Express flights from these hubs will get a KL code-share. KL flights in Europe departing from Amsterdam will get a CO code-share.

The CO – KL code-share co-operation will be effective for 6 months and can be prolonged. KL and CO will offer mutual lounge access. Continental OnePass and KL Flying Dutchman programmes will be connected. Since 1 December 2001 FD members can earn points on CO and get award CO flights. On the KL network the same applies for CO OnePass members.

Since CO is ending its partnership with AF effective 3/31/2002, it appears KLM will now be CO's European partner of choice. Perhaps another building block to revive 'Wings'?

I still think Wings as it stands today would lack reach in Asia (only MAS, with JAS probably being absorbed by JAL) and perhaps Europe, with only KLM.

Yes, Wings (even within CO) is a little bit disappointing...

I don't know why KLM/NW do not push this open issue. Do they live more comfortable in their little niche as we all think and don't have to fear competition too much as long as they are not in the big alliance game?
