As for crossing air-side, I've not (yet) encountered problems with the passport folks, other than their lines. But in my experience the lounge ladies on either side tend not to let you use their lounge if you have a boarding pass showing a departure from the "other" side.

This one has closed down since the opening of KLM's Schengen Lounge.

I've been lucky then. It's quite often that I've used the schengen lounge when flying back to London (having a Privium card makes it quicker to go between the two sides) although I only do this if I have more than a couple of hours to spare otherwise I just use the one near the E gates.

The latest "enhancement" seems to be that the lounge is full (lounge near D gates) and no more salad/rice thingy and soups.

On the plus side, the dragons have learnt how to say some form of thank you.

The other day I was in the Schengen lounge.
I still find this lounge to be very good and spacious.
However, I made the mistake of sitting on the "upright" chairs, close to the service desk.
The chatter of the staff at the desk was most annoying.
They were so vocal about their intented travel plans, checking flights and seeing which colleagues were which flight, why a certain colleague had been put in business class etc etc.
A passenger was a service question was barely attended to.
I moved to another seat after a while because of the annoyance.
Not very professional conduct by this staff I must say.
Get your act together ladies and gents!!

Service seems to be very indifferent at these lounges in my opinion. What food options do they have? Ive seen cookies, salads, soups, and various hot/cold snacks. Is that the norm and at what time do they usually put out the more substantial food service? Each time Im there, they seem to be already out!

I am aware that not everybody will agree, but I generally find the lounge agents quite friendly and helpful. A fair number of guests will also give them an uneccesarily hard time.

Yesterday, a lady complained vociferously about the fact that she had been allocated a middle seat in ES on a flight to CDG. The flight was full in both classes, so there was nothing the agent could do other than recommend that the pax ask at the gate about no show seats. The irate lady would not take no for an answer, and went on even after she was given the complaint form she demanded. When one of the agents briefly spoke to the other in Dutch, the lady continued her tirade in bad German.

Now I agree that a middle seat in ES is about as bad as it gets, but there are times one has to accept defeat instead of venting one's anger at those who can not be held responsible.

Pretty much. Yesterday there was vegetable soup, on Tuesdays it is usually tomato soup, etc. The rice salad seems to be the standard offering at lunchtime.
