Timetable Error or Correct Equipment?

Hi,

I just booked a return ticket from Houston to London, connecting in AMS (CO to KLM). As I would expect, my flight from AMS - LHR is on a 737 (type unspecified). However, the itinerary shows a 767 on the return LHR - AMS (Sept 9th). I didn't think that KLM would fly a widebody longhaul plane on such a short flight, so I went to NWA.com to book the same ticket again to see the equipment type. There the flight came up as an A330-200! Which, if any, are correct?

The reason I ask is that I am ticketed in J, so I would MUCH prefer to sit in the B767 / A332 comfortable chair vs. a B737 "Europe Select" seat!

Thanks for the help.

Some AMS-LH-AMS flights are operated by a 767. Not sure about C seating on those.

BTW I believe that in Japan airlines use 747s for internal flights....

The C class seating on the B767 AMS-LHR-AMS flights is exactly the same as used on the long haul routes. They use this a/c on the AMS-LHR route to increase fleet utilisation, rather than having the a/c sat on the ground at Schiphol in between long haul runs.

I'm on a B767 AMS-LHR in August, so the extra large seat (for a European business class flight) should be nice, but I'm not expecting WBC levels of service.

I once even had a 747 from LHR on KL years ago. The flight was completely full!

I am pretty much subscribed to that flight (KL1008).

This flight has been mentioned quite extensively on here. It isnt on the system for passengers, its purpose is to serve a large cargo contract KLM have.

Those flights are operated using different equipment, depending on the day of the week:

Yes, and with 11 seats per row.

And for the other part of the question... KL663 and KL664 are operated by PrivatAir on behalf on KLM, in a 737 BBJ in all business class configuration.

As of this summer season, discounts for kids and infants are no longer available on these flights, nor in C class on the regular KL flights to HOU (KL661/662).

Business must be too good!

That's part of it. The other issue is that LHR is slot-controlled, which means extra flights have to be approved, so the only easy way to increase the amount of available seats is to upgrade existing flights to bigger aircraft.

That's why LH flies A300s to LHR from FRA, for example, or why you see lots of A321s from a variety of airlines there.

I've sait it above. But this particular flight is one that I have rarely soon full. Last time I was on it we were 40.

A 737-900 would be of better usage if you were after passenger numbers vs cost of flying it.

Instead it's the cargo which keeps widebodies on this flight, not passenger numbers.

BA has a small fleet of intra-European 767s, which doesn't have any fancy seats, essentially a standard A320/B737 on steroids.

I think it is quite common on larger intra-European routes. I've seen the LH A300s in CPH a few times too. When SK is on strike they fly them to OSL too. ;)
