Seat change on upcoming flight

Returning from GIG to EDI on Tuesday and for the AMS to EDI leg our seats, 3A & 3C have been changed to 1A & 2C.

Tried the app - no option to change them. Tried WhatsApp, can't change them. Tried gold service line, said they could change to 1A & 1C. But app and web not reflecting the change.

I appreciate it's not huge to everyone and it's a short flight, but quite keen to sit together and not sure why it would be changed as far out without accomodating that.

Still seems to be a 737-800 that's flying. Wed 10-May 16:20.

Any thoughts on way to get two seats together rather than turning up in AMS and hoping for the best?

Hmm, if I try to book a new ticket AMS - EDI for the same flight, seat selection is unavailable.

Ah, got the answer to the cause looking at economy tickets. No idea on the resolution though.

Row 3 per my original booking is now economy comfort, and almost empty. Seat map below.

KL seem to move the curtain at midnight three days before the flight, so if you’re sat further back than they need on a flight with light J loads you’ll get moved.

Which makes sense with the recent changes to flying blue seat selection benefits

Indeed, can't say I'd noticed whether this is a change from before those benefits were restructured.

No, it's been like this for as long as I can remember.

The J cabin usually gets shrunk at T-72 or thereabouts (unless J is pretty full already!)

Fabo.sk May 8, 2023 7:37 am

There is a default size for J (per airplane). Based on bookings, this will either grow or shrink before departure. So far that's normal.

You should have been able to adjust your seats though.

Yes, but what does not make sense is splitting up pax that did book seats beforehand because of that policy. It looks like they reduced the size of the C cabin and had to reseat you. Unfortunately this is always a risk and very little you can do about it until on board and asking people to switch - which may or may not work.

Yeh. I'm actually now more aggrieved with the phone agent telling me she had sorted us both together (1A&1C) and then appears not to have done so for whatever reason.

Just out of curiosity, are you both on the same PNR?

And when you say you can't change the seats, do you mean that you are actually blocked from even getting as far as the seat map (though seems unlikely, given that you later mention apparently being able to view the seatmap in both the app and online - but perhaps here you are talking about when making a new dummy booking rather than actually being admitted as far as the seatmap on your EXISTING booking), or is 1C showing as being taken by somebody else, or what actually happens when you try to select an open seat? What error or image is displayed?

Thanks.

It used to be that changing seats on KLM was a doddle, but as has been noticed in other threads, this appears to have broken down lately. Some people report being able to change seats once and then no more; for me, it has manifested itself in that once OLCI is active, I can no longer even view the seatmap, let alone change my seats. I get this weird error ("Seatmap cannot be displayed because your paid option is not confirmed") - the reference to "paid option" had me thinking that it was somehow as a result of having paid extra for SAF - but, indeed, seat selection is no longer the easy and simple thing it used to be. Up until recently it was possible in almost all cases to continue to view the seatmap, and change seats, right up until boarding commenced. In the past few months, I've not been able to view the seatmap from T-72hours on any of my recent KLM flights.

Yeh we are both on the same PNR.

Not able to view the seat map from app or web for my booking. And if I try to book a single ticket on the same flight, it's also not possible to select a seat in business (but all others it's possible).

Agreed, always been easy to change seats in my experience on KLM. Only times when it's been a problem is when I've ended up with some kind of ticket issue, so hoping to avoid that.

Now almost two hours to check in for GIG to AMS opens, let's see what options appear then.

Based on my recent experiences, you won't be able to see the seat map or select a seat even when OLCI is open!

Ditto May 8, 2023 1:22 pm

As you said, the seat map is blocked and that's most likely because the cabin is now full, it is possible they've accommodated you on whichever seats they still had available.
If I try to load it in experflyer for business I get "PRS NOT ALLOWED THIS CLASS OR ZONE" while for economy all seats are either occupied or blocked, given that there are still 2 days until the flight and most PAX can't OLCI yet the seat map doesn't say much.
Checking availability on your flight... J2 C0 D0 I0 Z0 O0 Y3 B0 M0 P0 U0 F0 K0 W0 H0 S0 L0 A0 Q0 T0 E0 N0 R0 V0 X0 G0 so I would expect it will be full, please do report back if you spot an half empty airplane.
