After successfully reserving the aisle and window seat, this popped up at OLCI:

Clicking through, it offered to block the middle seat for 98 EUR, but of course if they needed the seat for operational reasons they would unblock the seat.

We decided not to take KLM up on its generous offer, and no one sat in the middle seat.

The "trick" works so well because if you are assigned a middle seat and someone onboard tells you "would you like to swap with either the window or the aisle?" they will of course be more than happy to.

It's a win/win for all 3 pax really, and that's probably why KL doesn't like it.

Happened to us recently on AF and the person chose the window
