Only the latter is shown on the departures board, the others not listed at all, presumably because they were canceled days ago. E.g. KL1141 is shown as "no flight information available" on Flightstats, and according to Flightaware this flight last operated on May 29th. According to Flightstats, KL1413 and 1779 were canceled on the 3rd.

Schiphol has promised security staff a €5.25/hour supplement during the summer months, in the hope of attracting more staff. However, they are going to pay this to people who are not employed directly by the airport, but by various security companies. The latter are now protesting, saying that Schiphol is distorting the labor market. Security personnel fall under one of two collective bargaining agreements, and now some of them will be paid a bonus by a company that doesn't even employ them directly. I can see why the security companies are less than happy, it may make it harder for them to deploy staff elsewhere, where the workers will have to settle for regular pay.

Cabin crew union VNC has joined the chorus of malcontents, blaming the owners of the airport (the state and the city of Amsterdam) for the mess, and whinging about the government loans that kept KLM afloat during the pandemic, but came with strings attached, such as limiting raises and perks.

more cancellations coming in. The 7.20 KL 1125 to CPH now also cancelled according to the app, as well as the 9.40 KL 1363 to WAW.

I really feel sorry for the call center and ticket/transfer desk agents who have to fix this mess.

I just think that most airports across Europe are having problems with staffing in general. Was at BHX the other day and its not the largest of airports but queues through security took 2 hours and every flight was delayed for at least 30 minutes.

Status report from this morning: Arrived at Departures 1 by car just before 7. No entry checks to enter the terminal. Entrance to SkyPriority slightly clogged by non-SP eligible people. Was immediately helped at check-in (there were queues at some of the desks, but as usual people don't see the desks by the stairs, so that's where I went). Upstairs at Priority security only a small queue that took less than 5 minutes to clear (i.e. to get to the checkpoint). At security about 90% of bags went to secondary (good to see they are operating normally at this time). We made it to the lounge by 7:30, so not bad at all, but I saw queues building up slowly.

Arrived this morning on the KL flight from IAD at 7:20, reached all passports passport control to go to the B gates for my connecting Schengen flight at 7:42, and got out 20 minutes later. By the time I was at the front of passport control, the all passports line was twice as long, and they had opened an express lane on the left for people whose flights were leaving within about 20 minutes. No line for EU passports or the E-gates.

Updated Dutch news at Sunday 05.43 morning:
https://nos.nl/artikel/2431451-klm-v...hol-te-vliegen

Warning: if you never read nonsense in your life, be amazed that it exists:

In English:
KLM expects today no repetition of the chaos as to act in such a way to fly aircraft empty back to Amsterdam airport.
Situation assesment by KLM : Sunday is a less busy day then Saturday yesterday and winds are favourable.
However KLM will be comitted in operating the Pentacost schedule of cancelling 50 flights a day.

* To quote Joan Rivers: I have never heard such nonsense Miss Rivers :
any reality check was left at the front door...

My Dutchie SO: Je krijgt gewoon zin om met een narren staf iemand daar op de vingers te tikken wegens het kramen van onzin

"Ahum"
Today Sunday, a less busy day then yesterday Saturday.....
Not every country has 2nd Pentacostday/PinksterMaandag...
So most international passengers will have planned to return today on Sunday...
Wonder what they think of tomorrow Monday then as most Dutchies will return....

Seems in all threads that the morning and noon bank of scheduled flights are the cause of the massive influx of passengers - that particular timeframe overwelms all Schiphols departures / arivals / transit chain of passengers processing.

Edit:
https://nos.nl/artikel/2431489-weer-...eizigers-gehad
Schiphol has appeased unions in a pledge of:
- Untill september groundstaff will earn an extra 5,25 p/h before taxes as incentive for summer
- After that some staff may enjoy an extra pay increase of €1,40 p/h.

Status update from this morning 5 June. AMS-DTW at 10:15. Delta SkyPriority family of four. After fearing the worst all week, we had a prettywhat I would callsuccessful experience this morning. At least relative to the horror stories of recent.
  • 6:40 Arrive at Departures 2 via Uber, entry via Door F
  • 6:53 Completed SkyPriority checkin with checked bag. Checking passes to enter priority line. Seemed to be about 3-4 deep at each priority checkin desk at 10 and 11. Didnt see desks at 9 until already through. Less people in those lines.
  • 7:00 Cleared priority security (including metal water bottle check that I did not empty, oops)
  • 7:12 Cleared normal, non e-gate passport control
  • 7:20 KLM Lounge 52

So all in, 40 minutes from drop off to lounge. This was our first time through AMS so a bit unfamiliar and slower as such. Prob save 10-15 minutes with no bag check and more experience with the layout.

As an aside, the regular checkin/security queue looked to be backing up already. Nothing out the door or that severe, but that was at ~06:45.

Canceled KLM (AMS - CPH)

I need assistance with where our bags will go if I decide to cut losses and drive/train to another airport. My familys connection from AMS to CPH was cancelled last night with KLM. We are rebooked with SAS tonight. the first two flights today with KLM to CPH have either canceled or currently delayed and trending towards cancellation.

KLM refuses to give me my checked bags, so Im stranded in Amsterdam with a young child and none of his stuff. Phone number is no help. Message app sucks. Service desk cant answer my question.

Basically, if I dont check in for the CPH flight tonight, will my bags stay in AMS? Can I get them shipped? I feel like a hostage to their incompetence. Thanks so much!!

yea, that's basically what will happen. You will be a no-show so the bags won't be loaded and they'll stay in AMS. After that, you'll have to reclaim your luggage and that can take a while.

So then when an airline refuses to give you your bags and then fails to deliver the service you need, I just have to stay. Great.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually a Schiphol limitation. Their entire luggage belt system is highly automated and bags are stored in a 'computer controlled' warehouse, until they're needed for a flight in which they're picked and loaded by a robotic arm onto a luggage cart airside.

Since there's not enough staff, they might just outright refuse doing it, but just as likely is that there's no procedure for that for pax who checked bag elsewhere, then got an onward flight cancelled and decide to travel onwards (out of NL) themselves.

thanks for the info. Would make sense if their staff could communicate that.

I can only speculate 😊 they'll probably know the real reason (or not).

Runway situation same as since Thursday:

There's more coming from Belgium and Germany, though.
