The KLM luggage handlers went on a strike.

"The European Court has ruled that when airline staff go in strike this is not an extraordinary circumstance because it is both an event which is inherent in the running of an airline and also within its control.

This means that you can claim compensation for delays or cancellations caused by the airline staff going on strike.

If it’s another organisation going on strike, such as baggage handlers or air traffic control then the law is less clear and it is likely that court proceedings would be required in order to decide on the specific circumstances of your case.

Occasionally the staff that work for an airline can go on strike to demand better pay or working conditions. BA staff have threatened strike action several times over the last few years and there have also been airline or pilot strikes in France."

What's more, it's not like planes can't fly without luggage on board.

My Dad has informed me that KLM texted saying that you could make a claim under EU Law for compensation for the delay, which is pretty honest of them.

Runway Havoc Continues - Despite Light Winds
 

The arrivals board is almost as red as it gets. Seven flights this morning were diverted to Rotterdam, Groningen, Düsseldorf or Brussels; other planes flew holding patterns or were held on the ground waiting for a slot.

One flight to AMS I looked at pushed back ½ hour late, even though the incoming aircraft had arrived on schedule. It then sat on the apron for another hour.

Departing pax can enjoy hours standing in line for security.

Every single flight listed as en route departed late, most around 2 hours aft STD.

And so the nightmare continues. New projected time for 09/27 to reopen is tomorrow afternoon. Let’s see if that one turns out to be true.

Meanwhile LH got me to my destination on time today with nothing worse that two trips on the ridiculously long and circuitous bus (de-)boardings at FRA.

Oh, those are such fun, especially if you arrive on a packed A321neo and then have an onward flight from, say, one of the very last B-gates.

I was affected by this yesterday - I was booked on KLM from NCL-AMS-xxx but couldn't get a boarding pass. Very slow queue at NCL, because they were rebooking anyone with a connection at AMS onto other carriers. I ended up rebooked via LHR on BA, arriving at xxx almost 6 hours after my original scheduled arrival.

Would you mind sharing the contact email you submitted this to? I think I should be entitled to €250 compensation based on the length of delay. This would at least cover the overnight stay in a hotel at xxx that I incurred as a result of the delay (I was unable to get to my final destination as it was so late, but I know duty of care only extends to the destination airport, i.e. xxx in this case).

Had a BP in the app for a flight through AMS today, and everything is already running late. I was headed to security when I thought better of it: huge queue at check in, but the SP line was short. Asked for a BP, and they rebooked me through CDG with a five hour late arrival. Now I'm in the lounge, and the KLM crew is getting settled for the long haul.
at least I don't have to eat in the Crown Lounge.

The early KL flights (i.e. aircraft on the ground since last night) left on time, but since midmorning it's been a disaster again.

Not one of the flights shown as en route left on time. Almost all were delayed by a lot more than just a few minutes.

Waiting at the gate for a landing slot at AMS. At the moment 45 to 60 min delay predicted.

Boy I am so glad to be flying via CDG instead today... may have gone with either. Dodged a bullet!
