Any chance to get compensation from this mess?
BCN flight will be delayed as well.

No comp for weather delays, only right to care

The only thing I can see are wind gusts of 30 mph = 6 Beaufort. From a West-North-Westerly direction, which is almost total crosswind of the 3 N-S runways they have. Maybe that is the issue.

I've seen reports over in the SAS forum that it is frequently unexpectedly closed - like this report from about 3 weeks ago. The same poster reported it closed again the following week in that thread: SAS Lounge Options Amsterdam (AMS)

As irishguy28 accurately spotted from other forums/threads, the lounge in question operates on a "on-and-off" basis and there are no predetermined patterns as such, "lack of staff" is (allegedly) the reason for the ongoing deviation from standard service. As for the lounge next door (i.e. Aspire), I travel from AMS on a regular basis (often even weekly) and, regardless of whether the Star Alliance lounge is open [or not], I always seem to come across significant queues (usually "overflowing" down the stairs, especially after 5PM), admittedly I don't even bother these days and, once established that the former lounge is closed for business, I proceed straight to the gate. For the records, it was open (and particularly quiet, too) the other day (roughly 12 o'clock, I briefly visited before LO264).

I will at this point invoke the ghost of Johan Rebel and remind everyone that Privium is a thing, and if you fly from or through Schiphol regularly, you should heavily consider it.

I had noticed this during the tail end of Covid and staff shortages at AMS. But the last few times that I've flown *A out of AMS (over the last few months) it was open every time. Though admittedly, I typically fly around or before noon - and usually the weekend. Haven't seen any queues for either *A or Aspire lounge. Though obviously we are talking about different days and times so things may depend heavily on that. That is odd though, for them to be so seemingly random about it.

Don't suppose anyone's heard anything more about RTP-NL and thus the ability for non-EU folks to join Privium...? I'm in the trial for RTP-NL, but since it's invisible to the traveller I haven't actually heard anything about it since I enrolled last year.

Is there really any practical benefit at all to Privium for people who only transfer at Schiphol, say 10 trips per year? I should manage to just about scrape FB Gold for 2024 so thats lounges sorted... and the Privium Lane at passport control I don't think is worth it for the cost. Any opinions?

for me the benefit is priority everywhere even when not flying KLM (which happens a few times a year) and I'm being forced to go landside to sustain my unhealthy addiction (smoking) - thus even on transits usually have to go via security. Furthermore the Privium lounges beat the KL lounges in every aspect.

Is it worth the money? For me it is.

Privium lounges, especially the NS one, blow KLM out the water with especially the food but also beverage offer. They are also usually less busy relative to size.

The priority passport control can save a lot of time in lines, even EU line, especially when biometric machines are not in place. If you are only transfering NS to NS or especially within Schengen the benefit is diminished, but I still recommend to at least consider it. I can't imaigne my life without it, of course I am a local so...
It's also useful in RTM and EIN for those times I fly LCC.

Will the RTP-NL only applies for NL residents? First time I heard about this.

I wish there is some way for non-EU to apply for Privium, it will reduce a lot of stress for my connections through AMS, especially the ones going in/out of Schengen.

The trial was offered to existing Privium members from non-EU nationalities, I believe - which predominantly[/exclusively?] means Brits who've had Privium predating 2020 and were allowed to keep it when our country did that Stupid Thing... The trial is entirely "their" side - testing the computer systems etc I think - and makes no difference to the traveller yet [i.e. I still have to see the KM person in the booth and show my resident's card to avoid getting stamped]. As I understand it, when it goes live it should be widely available [maybe certain nationalities, much like Global Entry] and completing RTP-NL would allow one to apply for Privium. Since my wife is American, I'm keen to get her enrolled as soon as it's possible to do so but as I said I've heard nothing since I enrolled Autumn last year...

Considering a reasonably priced EU-AMS-Asia trip on with a 70 minute Schengen-Intl connection. I've been avoiding AMS for the past couple years due to the frequent reports about long lines, so no idea if this is doable. Pre-Covid I wouldn't have been worried about it. Any thoughts whether this is too risky (December 28th at 4pm, EU citizens, Business class).

Totally doable. The situation has normalized in AMS.

Agree. You arrive airside and only have to pass immigration to non-Schengen, not security. Even during the horrors of 2022 the main issue was the security check on hand luggage for pax entering the airport for their initial flight that was falling apart, transfer pax had much less issues. And of course, if things go wrong due to delays of the feeder you are protected since on one ticket.
