What marketing is your 1st flight ARN-AMS? Is it KL, or DL?
If KL, then KLM bag allowance and fees apply for all flights, including return. US law requires the same policy, allowance (excluding elite/credit card waivers/), and fees apply throughout out (OLCI discounts are just considered a discount during checkin just like elite waiver) This is very interesting and possibly explains something that happened recently which confused me. I booked a 'light' return LHR-LAX with KLM and added baggage only for the outbound trip (on KLM metal via AMS) by mistake, and none for the return which is operated straight to London by Delta. KLM website claims I have zero baggage allowance for the way back, however the Delta website and Delta CS claim I do have a baggage allowance. Would this be a consequence of this law or would the cause be different? |

Extra baggage allowance for Elite(+) is a Skyteam benefit, so it should also apply for ITA STE+ members. KLM does not restrict this benefit to specific fare classes, so you should be good to go.
also, how many pounds can our bags be? This will help us determine how much we can buy at the Christmas markets in Vienna. Also, any suggestions of what to visit and eat on a quick trip to VIE? Thank You to all! |

Will my mom be able to check 2 bags as well? She is in the same itinerary.
On this trip you are eligible to check-in 3 bags, 2 under your name and one under your mom. (If main cabin.) You’re allowed to bring 3 bags of 50 pounds each. Or a combined total weight of 150 pounds for all checked bags. Remember you are also allowed to bring a 26 pound cabin bag each. All that should allow you to take enough Apfelstrudel to cover the entire Mount Lemmon with vanilla cream. |

Unfortunately no. DL baggage benefits extending to same-PNR travel companions only apply on a Delta-operated flight. And even never out of AMS or CDG.

I’m looking at a three leg itinerary where the first leg is on KLM Cityhopper, the second and third legs on DL. Only issue is the KLM flight options arrive at night and the TATL options all depart in the morning.
Will they check my bag all the way through, or what’s the procedure? (Thinking I might just book a room in the airport hotel…) |

(Thinking I might just book a room in the airport hotel…) Unless the transfer time is superior to 24 hours: And while AF is really clear concerning that procedure for collecting a bag during layover at CDG for 275€, KLM is a bit more vague so I suspect they allow more room to look at it by case to case. But the fee is the same. So theoretically the answer is yes : your bag will be going to your final destination. (Except obviously in your case where it will have to be collected at first port of entry in the USA. And checked in again there.) An overnight layover at AMS can quickly add 150€ - 200€ (without food/drinks) to your journey. If an alternative flight is within that range, I would select that. I find the citizen M at AMS to be good for short overnight layovers. |
