Free upgrades on KLM Cityhopper?

Hey guys,

Yes, yes, another upgrade post...

Has anyone had much luck getting free upgrades on Cityhopper flights?

Nope. Very, very rare. Why even? Just make C smaller. Only really can happen when you have uneven number of C pax and full Y. Much easier for that to happen on mainline given the seating arrangement.

I have a 2 upgrades to business out of 20 flights on my trips between AMS and NCL. Strange enough none to the preferred eco seats all straight to business.

The majority of my op-ups have been on Cityhopper flights.

That said, it doesn't happen very often. Happened on my last AMS-DUB flight in August, though! I was given 1D at the gate, on a flight with 2 rows of business, and with 6 of the 8 seats assigned. Seats 2D & 2F were the only unassigned seats, so I moved back to 2F.

On the return flight I got seat 2F as well - but this time it was Economy

I fly a lot between AMS and NWI and have gotten a few op-ups but they are nothing else then the same seat and coffee or tea instead of water and a small sandwich.

Yes: KLC show the depth of contempt they have for business class customers on AMS-NWI: a take-away bag with a sandwich, biscuit and a bottle of water and tea or coffee. Not even a glass of wine or beer, or soft drink for that matter. Meanwhile, on LHR-MAN (same length as AMS-NWI), BA offers a light meal and a full bar service...

niet mogelijk culture is alive and well at KLC.

Two upgrades this year from EC to Business on Cityhopper flight. 1x AMS-LHR and 1x CPH-AMS.

Iíve had two upgrades on Cityhopper flights in the past 18 months, both on UK regional flights - from Cardiff and to Birmingham.

It wouldn't just happen to be a monopoly route, by any chance?

GOT-AMS moved one row ahead - just before curtain. Water from glass instead of container and Y sandwich. Did not mind this upgrade as the seat next to me was empty, without upgrade I was to be with stranger next tome.

AMS-PRG the rotation with E190 was on Saturday overbooked, op up probably there for someone, however I was on the last evening flight..with all 3 seats in Comfort for me and Cava from purser.....nice touch!

In 2019, I have only had 2 upgrades as a Gold Skyteam Elite Plus member.

July 4th 2019 - Aalborg to Amsterdam (KLM Cityhopper)
November 26th 2019 - Seoul Incheon to Amsterdam (KLM)

Given that I have never expected upgrades on KLM, and given that I am only Gold, I am always pleasantly surprised when I open the KLM app to see my updated boarding pass with seat 1C written on it!

"Only" 2 upgrades? I had a grand total of zero upgrades since I became a member!
