One Runway Down

Runway 06/24 (the Kaagbaan) will be closed for routine maintenance for a fortnight starting tomorrow, Sunday.

Even the gentlest of zephyrs will now be in a better position to wreak operational havoc at the airport, and gangs of snowflakes are no doubt also rubbing their hands in delighted anticipation and gleefully hatching pernicious plans.

That's a pity as the Kaagbaan is generally the one in use saturday noon when I often fly out of AMS. Its positioned in a way that hardly any taxi time is needed from the terminal.
Wonder if they would use the Oostbaan for departures instead... I see it in use for arrivals every now and then when the winds are suitable.

Though somehow I'm afraid we'll all likely to be getting more familiar with the polderbaan over the next weeks..

I've not taken off from the Oostbaan since the Good Old Schiphol Oost days.

Landings have been few and far between in the last decades. I remember one last year, and recall a memorable one in a SAA 747 in the teeth of a hurricane.

Oh god... that means statistically for me that I have guaranteed polderbaan departures and arrivals when the zwanenburg baan is in use to.....

Landed on the Polderbaan on my flight from EDI today, but that's what always happens anyway, so no difference there. It's much better when it's the Polderbaan that's closed for maintenance 😊.

Myself, so far I've had the luck of landing at Polderbaan when I was dozing off anyway, so in that's case it's actually nice - where are we? oh, Polderbaan, good. Off to sleep for 15 more minutes

Actually it's the taxiway over the motorway being closed which causes more irritation than the runway itself. Landing on the Polderbaan with the Zwanenburgbaan also in use for landings means a very circuitous routing around the south of said runway then back up north, all the way around the terminals to reach the Cityhopper parking.

The Kaagbaan reopened today, ahead of schedule.

Runway 18C/36C (the Zwanenburgbaan) is next in line. It will undergo a major facelift between March 10 and April 21.
