KLM dropping Southampton from Mar 19
I’ve just seen this from another source and it is mentioned in the new destinations thread, but I think it is a great shame. I live a fast 15 min drive (20 if being sensible) from SOU and leaving home an hour before departure always felt very daring. My sister used to commute from SOU and I think her record was leaving home 30/35 mins before departure and still making the flight. KL via AMS was a great one-stop gateway to the world, with the start and end in a very small and homely airport. I remember as a child moving back to the UK in 1995 from the Middle East and flying via AMS. At that time SOU had a wooden shack style passport control area. How long have KL been flying from SOU? |

Disappointing news this, the AMS-SOU route was a convenient one for me, obviously not profitable for them anymore.

KLM was code-sharing with Flybe before they put their own metal on the route. Does anyone know for sure that they are not going to go back to that?
KLM's association with SOU actually goes back a lot longer than 2016, and a lot longer even than the Flybe code shares. Air UK was operating the route for a long time, and they were part-owned by KLM and offering through connections. The route was taken over by Suckling Airways in the mid-1990s, but flights continued to have AirUK (UK) codes for a couple of years, until AirUK disappeared. |

With the number of slots at AMS capped, KL may have come to the conclusion that they can make more money using the SOU slots for flights to other destinations. Johan |
KLM returns to Southampton from August 31
After a 17 month suspension, in which time the only remaining operator of the route, FlyBe, collapsed, Southampton will again be served by KLM from August 31.
KL0919 AMS 1635 SOU 1645 daily E175 KL0920 SOU 1720 AMS 1935 daily E175 https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/185...ton-amsterdam/ |
That's awesome news! By far the best UK airport for me and after flybe went down not completely surprising.
All we need now is for all this covid crap to bugger off! |
It is really good news (and Southampton Airport needs some) but very poor arrival time into Amsterdam if you are looking to make an onward connection longhaul.

However, you can expect that once travel comes round again, there should eventually be a morning frequency too. The last time KLM announced a restart of service to SOU, this was their timetable from May 2016: KL915 AMS0835 – 0845SOU F70 x67 KL919 AMS1640 – 1650SOU F70 D KL916 SOU0920 – 1130AMS F70 x67 KL920 SOU1725 – 1935AMS F70 D |
