Unforeseen fog at AMS causes a day of mass disruption, as we were confronted with ATC restrictions for AMS up to 2 hours and 30 minutes. In order to realize a manageable operation during the day; the following flights have been cancelled (more are expected to follow): o KL1777-KL1778/16AUG AMS-HAM-AMS (Hamburg) o KL1333-KL1334/16AUG AMS-AAL-AMS (Aalborg) o KL1869-KL1870/16AUG AMS-STR-AMS (Stuttgart) o KL1887-KL1888/16AUG AMS-NUE-AMS (Nuremberg) o KL1957-KL1958/16AUG AMS-ZRH-AMS (Zurich) o KL1125-KL1126/16AUG AMS-CPH-AMS (Copenhagen) o KL1127-KL1128/16AUG AMS-CPH-AMS (Copenhagen) o KL1279-KL1280/16AUG AMS-EDI-AMS (Edinburgh) o KL1505-KL1506/16AUG AMS-NWI-AMS (Norwich) o KL1417-KL1418/16AUG AMS-LYS-AMS (Lyon) o KL1973-KL1974/16AUG AMS-BUD-AMS (Budapest) o KL1127-KL1128/16AUG AMS-CDG-AMS (Paris CDG) o KL1441-KL1442/16AUG AMS-ABZ-AMS (Aberdeen) o KL1643-KL1644/16AUG AMS-FLR-AMS (Florence) o KL0985-KL0986/16AUG AMS-LCY-AMS (London City)

Visibility now 967 meters, by the way. AMS seems to be the only really foggy place in Holland, visibility at RTM is over 10 km.

Fog might be gone but at this moment departures etc are still not on schedule. 35 minutes before departure i've got this email (departure is now 1h10 delayed)
KLM states:
Dear Mr Grouchy,
We regret to tell you that your flight has been delayed due to operational constraints. You will arrive in XXXX later than intended and we are very sorry for any difficulty you experience.
If you're at the airport, and your delay is between 2 and 3 hours, you can collect an amenity coupon for a beverage. If your delay is longer than 3 hours we would like to offer you a coupon for food and beverages, or a discount on your on-board purchases or extra Flying Blue Miles. If necessary, we will also arrange a hotel stay, including transportation to and from your accommodation.
Please head to a kiosk to print your coupon.
Yours sincerely,
KLM Customer Care
Only thing i find is strange they only know this 35 before departure?

They most likely knew it a bit earlier, but it probably takes time until they send the e-mails.
I was once sitting in the lounge in BCN and received a similar e-mail, about 1h before departure, of course the delay was due to the AMS-BCN flight being delayed, and they knew it for quite some time as well since it left AMS about 1hr before the e-mail came out.

Yesterday there were delays due to thunder storms in Germany. Luckily I rechecked the screen as I was about to leave the lounge.
Have to say passport control going out last week and back yesterday was a breeze with with the electronic scanners working

The queues at the T2 transfer desk were a sight to behold, by the way. Why don't these people go to the nearest bar or café and phone? They can sit down and enjoy a drink or snack while on hold, instead of standing in line for hours.

I suspect phone "queues" were probably just as long...

Most people don't even know that's an option. In fact it would be great if on days with long queues they would have an employee walk along the line telling people to call.

Another rough weekend for KLM with aircraft gone tech both in the EU and ICA fleet, many aircraft swaps, ATC, weather and crew issues and baggage system failures. Most notably, on a flight to Asia 6 WBC seats needed to be blocked as the overhead crew rest was INOP. As a result, some PAX were downgraded. Today's JFK flight has also been cancelled.

There was an issue yesterday. This morning, 10000 bags were still stranded in Amsterdam. 7000 remained as of this evening. They are rerouted on the first available flight.
