Perhaps KL should outsource the training of their secretaries, janitors and what have you to CPH. They might even learn a thing or two.
From a pax perspective, AMS has been heading downhill at an accelerating pace for years. No risk of their deicing service hitting rock bottom though, it's already been stuck there for as long as anyone can remember.

"Mes" in Schiphol, literally.
They should update the website....Schiphol Plaza is closed, according to reports, and no trains are stopping at the airport.

Some “confused person” with a knife threatened KMar officers and was shot in the leg.

Can we get a roll call of users here? Are we sure it wasn't someone so frustrated with the security situation that they finally snapped?

Thats the official story indeed. However if you see the video (or better hear, because it doesnt show anything useful) there were a whole bunch of shots. Kind of weird if what they were planning is just to immobilise the person.

Not so strange. They may have missed their target a few times - for all we know, the man was “dancing” wildly in front of the officers, and they targeted his leg.

Here we go again . . . and again . . . and . . .
KL has scrapped 53 flights tomorrow, Wednesday. There are rumors of a storm.

FYI, big storm today in Paris and, in fact, all over France. It will be likely a big mess today in CDG and ORY.

A quick count shows that between 6 and 9 a.m.. KL canceled 27 flights. In the same time period Easyjet canceled one, and there were eight departure delays, all of them minor. All other flights left on time.
Makes you wonder whether KL made the right decision here. I'm glad I cleared out of there yesterday.

Surely you understand the difficulties passengers pose when missing their connection on AMS and having to be put up in hotels because the next flight is in 3 days. Better to keep them from stranding at AMS by either not flying via AMS (rebooking) or not at all.
Easyjet does not have that issue, of you miss your connection today you simply are out of luck.

Despite KL, AF, UX, VY, EW, U2, BE and BA's cancellations, the remaining flights still exceed ATC capacity, and significant delays have developed over the course of the morning.
(You appear to wish to flatter U2 by stopping your analysis at 09:00; in the following 3 hours, they cancelled 4 out of 8 flights, and of the half that operated, delays were as long as 3h 27m). Looking forward to the rest of the day, 9 further Easyjet flights scheduled for this afternoon and evening have already been cancelled, giving them 14 cancellations out of 48 flights for the day, or just under 30% of all their flights. Considering how many more flights KL operates, that seems like a worse performance to me than KL).
BA are on 3 out of 20, fora 15% cancellation rate.

Which no doubt explains why the vast majority of flights scheduled between 1 and 2 p.m. departed on time.
As for ATC, having three parallel runways aligned at more or less right angles to prevailing winds is a brilliant idea. And no, that layout was not inevitable or unavoidable.
Plan Dellaert (plan 12B from 1947) proposed a configuration comprising of six runways radiating as offset spokes from the central terminal area, with room for another three. Even in its original incarnation it would have guaranteed at least three fully operational runways regardless of wind direction.
You get visionaries and then you get the rest . . . .
