Priority security at STR?
Hi,
does anyone know if there's a priority lane at security in STR? The SkyTeam app says there is, but that app also says there is one in MAD T2 when there isn't. Thanks! |
there is a priority lane but you will hardly notice any difference...... because it is not a very strict lane... when it is not crowded (90% of the day) it is closed, when it is crowded you have a priority entrance but end in a waiting line with all other Pax that do not realize the difference...
I took about 70 flights from STR and tried to use priority twice and always ended up spending the same amount of time than through the regular lane. |
Having been there yesterday evening, I can report that I did not see any signs indicating the SkyPriority lane, then again I was the queue at the regular line, so a priority queue wouldn't have made any difference.

It depends a bit on the terminal you're in at STR.
The "designated" priority lane is at T2 and is a joke. There's a red carpet but the only priority treatment you get is that you cannot opt out of the pornographic-scanner... T1 and T3 have "priority" stickers on the ground (the blue line) but nobody enforces anything as such it's basically non-existent. If you talk to people at the airport they'll either point you to T2 or claim that the airport doesn't have priority-handling at all. Personally, I think the latter group is right. Generally though it doesn't matter. I've been flying through STR probably something like 200 times in the last 5 years (usually Friday evening and Sunday evening but a few times during the week as well) and real queues are _very_ rare. In March 2015 somebody at the German ministry for the interior had a brainstorm though and required stricter security checks including opening and switching on of all electronic devices etc. Queues went up to 45min and longer just at security. This stopped after 4 days though, not sure why exactly. But generally, STR is a quite nice airport with very short queues... |
STR certainly is not a bad airport. I find it funny though what they consider "terminals" - it's all just one building that's not even large yet they're speaking of terminals. By that standard my apartment consists of two terminals too ;-)
And the other mightily annoying thing when I was there was that only one restroom in all of the terminals was open airside as the others were closed. The one that was opened was poorly signposted too. |
There is a dedicated priority lane between T3 and T2. It has direct stairs up to the lounges
