Confirmed: Ryanair to serve AMS from 27/10/2015

Could KLM soon be facing intensified shorthaul competition from Schiphol?

We won’t fly to London Heathrow, Charles De Gaulle and Frankfurt Main – but every other airport is now on the table.” O’Brien continues: “Not only have we broadened our appeal to the consumer, but more and more airports of all types now appreciate what we have to offer. Indeed, our biggest challenge next year will be having enough aircraft to satisfy demand, not just from consumers, but from airports across Europe.” O’Brien also said New Ryanair’s 2014 base additions are a good example of this change in its appeal. “We have already opened new bases at Athens, Brussels Zaventem, Lisbon and Rome Fiumicino, with Cologne [Bonn], Gdansk and Glasgow to follow this month, and our 180 new aircraft will allow us to grow by 30m customers over the next five years. We estimate that 50% of that growth will be at primary airports.”
Anna.aero has shortlisted their 10 most likely picks, but have reduced the hot favourites for designation as bases down to 3: Amsterdam, Gatwick [already served, but not a base] and Orly.

It may well happen - I understand Ryanair has applied for nine slots in Amsterdam last month, although FR has not confirmed this.

A difference this time may be that they actually received them too.

Ryanair receives 9 daily slot pairs at AMS for winter season

The Irish ULCC has been offered a batch of slots at Schiphol – nine daily pairs in fact ‒ as the airline continues its move towards using more primary airports in its revised strategy of trying to attract higher average yields. Confirmed by Stichting Airport Coordination Netherlands (SACN), which handles slot allocation at the country’s airports, the slots are available from W15/16. Ryanair has until 31 August to confirm whether it will take them up or return them to SACN. The airline had previously applied for slots at Amsterdam for the S14 season, but did not take up its allotted batch, apparently due to a shortage of available aircraft.
Their speculated routes:

London Stansted, Paris Beauvais, Barcelona and Frankfurt Hahn

(to be honest, I can't see them flying to Hahn from Amsterdam. I would suspect that Dublin would be added long before they even thought about Hahn)

also of interest, from that article: the 12 European destinations with the most seats from Amsterdam

Can't see them flying to Beauvais either. It's too close to Holland, and too far from Paris.

Good point!

Maybe Brussel-Zaventem and Bruxelles-Charleroi then?

Or Ryanair is going to run a domestic network in the Netherlands?

Groningen, Zestienhoven, Eindhoven, Maastricht and Twente...

I would find the service between Zestienhoven and AMS quite useful ^^^

And once Lelystad is up and running as the "leisure airport" of Amsterdam/The Netherlands, a service between LEY and AMS would also be very, very useful!!!

They could have a full domestic network all with just three routes:

RTM-AMS-ENS; MST-EIN-AMS; AMS-LEY-GRQ

I would love AMS-LEY. I live in Flevoland and work near Schiphol and the railway isn't the most reliable option, so that would be a great alternative

Or use the old air base at Soesterberg as a hub:

There might still be some Fokker F27 Friendships lying around to run the service

Seriously though - I am not sure ANNA got this one quite right. I agree with Stansted and Barcelona, but for the others my bet would be on Rome, Milan, Madrid, Manchester or Dublin.
