Newbie question on connecting flight
Hi everyone: Hoping someone can help me. I have only ever flown direct flights before so have never had to deal with a connecting flight but unfortunatly I don't have an option this time. My itineary is as follows:
1730 dep - 0650 Arr - Toronto - Amsterdam (KLM) 0800 dep - 0810 ARR - Amsterdam to Birmingham, UK (KLM) Both flights are on the same ticket and with the same airline Questions: 1. Is 1hr 10mins to get on the connecting flight enough time? 2. Do i have to go to a different terminal to board the next flight and if so how would I know this? 3. If I miss the flight, will KLM put me on the next flight and will my checked baggange come with me or will it already be in Birmingham? Thanks for your help :) |
Very doable as long as you don't linger. No passport control as it's int'l-int'l. Onward security is at the gate for the BHX flight. Your incoming flight from YYZ wil most liekly get to the E, D or F pier, and BHX from the D pier. If you walk fast, 10 minutes from one gate to the next max. As long as you're there before the flight closes, you're good as they can see you're coming through security.

Not sure, but simply check the flight board when you land. It will show the terminal and gate number for your Amsterdam to Birmingham flight. 3. Yes, assuming the delay is their fault. If you miss the flight because you're buying the Mrs a gift in duty free or squeezing in a last pint, then no they wont. My advice is relax and enjoy it. Plenty of KLM attendants in Schiphol if you need any info when you land. |
Connecting at AMS is easy. :)

(It does have several "piers", but these are not like terminals since you can just walk between them freely and they are all close together. [Well, except the Schengen pier, but that doesn't matter to your journey.]) 3. Yes, and your bags will usually travel on the same aircraft as you. You will be presented with both boarding passes when you check in at Toronto. The second boarding pass will probably not have a gate on it, since this isn't confirmed so far ahead. If you only get the first one for some reason (or lose the second one!), you can pick up the second boarding pass at AMS, just go to a "Transit desk". There are lots of these around the gates. There are machines or if you prefer, bright blue Dutch employees who speak perfect English. When you get to AMS, find the nearest information monitor just like you would do first time you get to an airport, and find which gate you need to go to. You will probably have time for a beer! Your bag will be checked through to BHX automatically. |
